Palermo (Italian: [paˈlɛrmo], Sicilian: Palermu, Latin: Panormus, from Greek: Πάνορμος, Panormos, Arabic: بَلَرْم, Balarm; Phoenician: זִיז, Ziz) is a city in Insular Italy, the capital of both the autonomous region of Sicily, The Metropolitan City of Palermo had a population of 1,300,000. The city is noted for its history, culture, architecture and gastronomy, playing an important role throughout much of its existence; it is over 2,700 years old. Palermo is located in the northwest of the island of Sicily, right by the Gulf of Palermo in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The city was founded in 734 BC by the Phoenicians as Ziz ('flower'). Palermo then became a possession of Carthage, before becoming part of the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire and eventually part of the Byzantine Empire, for over a thousand years. The Greeks named the city Panormus meaning 'complete port'. From 831 to 1072 the city was under Arab rule during the Emirate of Sicily when the city first became a capital. The Arabs shifted the Greek name into Balarm, the root for Palermo's present-day name. Following the Norman reconquest, Palermo became the capital of a new kingdom (from 1130 to 1816), the Kingdom of Sicily and the capital of the Holy Roman Empire under Frederick II Holy Roman Emperor and Conrad IV of Germany, King of the Romans. Eventually Sicily would be united with the Kingdom of Naples to form the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies until the Italian unification of 1860.

Donatella Versace
Donatella Versace (born 2 May 1955) is an Italian fashion designer and current Vice President of the Versace Group, as well as its chief designer. She owns a 20% share of the business. During the 1980s, Donatella's brother, Gianni Versace, launched a perfume dedicated to her, Blonde, and gave her his own diffusion label, Versus. Versace took over the label's design after her brother's death.
Early life and family
She was born in the Italian city of Reggio Calabria, the youngest of four children in her family. Her father was a personal financier to the Italian aristocracy. An older sister, Tina, died at the age of twelve from an improperly treated tetanus infection. Her brother Santo Versace owns 30% percent of Versace stock.
Fashion debut
In the mid-1970s, Donatella followed her older brother, Giovanni ("Gianni"), to pursue knitwear design in Florence, Italy. She had planned to work for her brother in the public relations department, but was more valuable to Gianni as a "muse and critic", according to her during an interview with Vogue. Through her closeness to her brother's enterprises, Donatella entered the fashion world. A decade later, during the 1980s, Gianni launched a perfume dedicated to her, Blonde, and gave her her own label, Versus, which remains a well-known Versace line.

Before visiting any city, I like to quickly read a little about the safety and areas to avoid. I adopted this practice after ending up in what was apparently the worst part of Athens. I know not to believe everything I read on the internet, but you have to start somewhere. When reading about Palermo, I was nervous to read many accounts of peoples scary experiences and of course talk of the mafia. I was pleasantly surprised when we found ourselves in Palermo, how warm the people were (even though we don't speak italian), and how safe I actually felt (even though we were staying in one of the supposed "areas to avoid.") Before visiting any city, I like to quickly read a little about the safety and areas to avoid. I adopted this practice after ending up in what was apparently the worst part of Athens. I know not to believe everything I read on the internet, but you have to start somewhere. When reading about Palermo, I was nervous to read many accounts of peoples scary experiences and of course talk of the mafia. I was pleasantly surprised when we found ourselves in Palermo, how warm the people were (even though we don't speak italian), and how safe I actually felt (even though we were staying in one of the supposed "areas to avoid.") Our airbnb host was wonderful and I found that most of my interactions with people were playful and light. We did get to visit the Ballaro Market, one of three famous markets in the city, which was definitely my favorite part. Enjoy and share with your friends!

My channel is a place for adventurers to come together, inspire each other and to share my adventures with those that I love. My partner, Scott, and I made the biggest decision of our lives in 2016. We decided to leave everything behind, rid ourselves of our belongings and take on a travel lifestyle. We have bought one way tickets and have opened our hearts and minds to what this journey has to offer. Please enjoy and share with anyone who you think will be interested. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and the most diverse region in Italy, a land of gods and natural forces and a place of ancient cultures.Catania, in the northeast of the island, is Sicily’s second largest city that has been strongly influenced by earthquakes and also the volcanic activity of Mount Etna. It is believed that Greek settlers from Chalkidi founded it and some centuries later, it was conquered by the Romans and later, the Arabs brought the city a new wave of prosperity.Noto is a charming town with around 20,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful enclosed Baroque towns in Sicily. However, many of Noto’s historic buildings have been neglected for many years and are in somewhat less than perfect condition. The Cathedrale Di San Nicolo also fell into disrepair as a result of continued neglect and this caused both its dome and part of its roof to collapse in 1996.A proud and mighty volcano rises above eastern Sicily. Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, is the undisputed ruler of this fascinating Mediterranean island. The snow on the summit region of Etna obscures the fact that deep within the volcano is an unimaginable natural furnace with a temperature of around 1,000 degrees Celsius.Marsala was given its name by the Arabs who called it ‘Marsal-Allah’, ‘God’s Harbor’. The monumental city gate is a reminder of the landing of Giuseppe Garibaldis on the 8th of March, 1860.In the mountain area close to Palermo, another wonderful city featured on our journey, is the picturesque town of Monreale, a townscape that for more than 800 years, has been dominated by a single building.
