Palermo (Italian: [paˈlɛrmo], Sicilian: Palermu, Latin: Panormus, from Greek: Πάνορμος, Panormos, Arabic: بَلَرْم, Balarm; Phoenician: זִיז, Ziz) is a city in Insular Italy, the capital of both the autonomous region of Sicily, The Metropolitan City of Palermo had a population of 1,300,000. The city is noted for its history, culture, architecture and gastronomy, playing an important role throughout much of its existence; it is over 2,700 years old. Palermo is located in the northwest of the island of Sicily, right by the Gulf of Palermo in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The city was founded in 734 BC by the Phoenicians as Ziz ('flower'). Palermo then became a possession of Carthage, before becoming part of the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire and eventually part of the Byzantine Empire, for over a thousand years. The Greeks named the city Panormus meaning 'complete port'. From 831 to 1072 the city was under Arab rule during the Emirate of Sicily when the city first became a capital. The Arabs shifted the Greek name into Balarm, the root for Palermo's present-day name. Following the Norman reconquest, Palermo became the capital of a new kingdom (from 1130 to 1816), the Kingdom of Sicily and the capital of the Holy Roman Empire under Frederick II Holy Roman Emperor and Conrad IV of Germany, King of the Romans. Eventually Sicily would be united with the Kingdom of Naples to form the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies until the Italian unification of 1860.
Donatella Versace (born 2 May 1955) is an Italian fashion designer and current Vice President of the Versace Group, as well as its chief designer. She owns a 20% share of the business. During the 1980s, Donatella's brother, Gianni Versace, launched a perfume dedicated to her, Blonde, and gave her his own diffusion label, Versus. Versace took over the label's design after her brother's death.
She was born in the Italian city of Reggio Calabria, the youngest of four children in her family. Her father was a personal financier to the Italian aristocracy. An older sister, Tina, died at the age of twelve from an improperly treated tetanus infection. Her brother Santo Versace owns 30% percent of Versace stock.
In the mid-1970s, Donatella followed her older brother, Giovanni ("Gianni"), to pursue knitwear design in Florence, Italy. She had planned to work for her brother in the public relations department, but was more valuable to Gianni as a "muse and critic", according to her during an interview with Vogue. Through her closeness to her brother's enterprises, Donatella entered the fashion world. A decade later, during the 1980s, Gianni launched a perfume dedicated to her, Blonde, and gave her her own label, Versus, which remains a well-known Versace line.
Donatella is an Italian feminine given name.

Benvenuti Modaholic! Scodinzolate solo a chi è vestito bene! Giuliettadog
Auguri !

Travel video about destination Palermo in Italy. Once known as the stronghold of the Mafia, Palermo, the capital of Sicily, has gradually improved its image and the joie de vivre of its inhabitants has turned it into one of the most lively cities in Italy. The monumental Palermo Cathedral is located on the edge of the Piazza Cathedrale. Throughout the centuries, it has been a place for rendezvous, celebrations and justice. Following the city’s conquest by the Saracens, an ancient cathedral on this site was transformed into a Friday mosque and was later used for Christian ceremonies. In 1072, the Normans conquered the island. They were so captivated by this ‘paradise on earth’ that they were careful to preserve it. They admired its oriental splendor and Arabian-Norman architecture but when t...

Palermo street food – Sicilian Food documentary [Palermo travel guide] That was on our mind from the moment we stepped off the bus in Palermo. Rated as the 5th best city in the world for street food, we knew we were in our element. However one of us wasn’t completely “on board” with some of Palermo’s more traditional delicacies – organ meat doesn’t make much of an appearance at our dinner table back home. While Calli nervously hummed and hawed, I booked us a walking tour of Palermo’s street food scene with StrEAT Palermo Tours to understand another, tastier side of the city. When Palermo locals talk about a loud riotous confusion, the word they use is ‘vucciria’, taken from the name of the oldest market on the Italian island. And it’s not hard to see why. Crammed with food stalls during the day, by night La Vucciria comes alive with the clamour of revellers spilling out of tavernas onto the well-worn streets. Before visiting any city, I like to quickly read a little about the safety and areas to avoid. I adopted this practice after ending up in what was apparently the worst part of Athens. I know not to believe everything I read on the internet, but you have to start somewhere. When reading about Palermo, I was nervous to read many accounts of peoples scary experiences and of course talk of the mafia. I was pleasantly surprised when we found ourselves in Palermo, how warm the people were (even though we don't speak italian), and how safe I actually felt (even though we were staying in one of the supposed "areas to avoid.") Our airbnb host was wonderful and I found that most of my interactions with people were playful and light. We did get to visit the Ballaro Market, one of three famous markets...

Travel video about destination Sicily in Italy. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and the most diverse region in Italy, a land of gods and natural forces and a place of ancient cultures.Catania, in the northeast of the island, is Sicily’s second largest city that has been strongly influenced by earthquakes and also the volcanic activity of Mount Etna. It is believed that Greek settlers from Chalkidi founded it and some centuries later, it was conquered by the Romans and later, the Arabs brought the city a new wave of prosperity.Noto is a charming town with around 20,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful enclosed Baroque towns in Sicily. However, many of Noto’s historic buildings have been neglected for many years and are in somewhat less than perfect condition. T...
© 2000 Rick Steves' Europe | After going fishing for anchovies off Cefalù, we land in rough-and-tumble Palermo. Marveling at the eerie skeletons in a Capuchin crypt, airy mosaics of Monreale, enchanting ruins of Segesta, and fiery rim of Mount Etna, we enjoy the best of Sicily.
The Messina Strait, the famous Greek theatre of Taormina, the archeological sites of Segesta and Selinunte, the marvellous Catania, the unique monastery and temple of Monreale, the picturesque Cefalu and Ragusa are all worth taking a look on the largest island of the Mediterranean Sea. The romantic Sicily, an island very rich in monuments and natural beauties, enchants every visitor. Let us take a walk on the streets of the capital, Palermo, let us refresh ourselves on the beach of Mondello, take a slide in the famous Citta del Mare, and go to the ever-foggy Erice using the cableway. We can enjoy the sicilian blood-oranges, drink a capuccino among the walls of Syracuse, and finally, take a walk to the still active Etna volcano. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPg...
