It's windy out there

The Bureau of Meteorology is comparing the damaging winds forecast to the winds in Melbourne on April 2008, when Victoria bore the tail-end of ex-tropical cyclone Pancho. While the morning saw north to northwesterly winds averaging 50-60km/h, the speed picked up to 70km/h by the afternoon. At Melbourne Airport, a wind gust at 11.38am was measured at 107km/h.
