Ronald Eugene Thompson, Sr., 69, departed this Earthly life Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, in Nashville. Beloved son of Mildred L. Thompson and the late Noah L. Thompson Sr., was born on Dec. 31, 1946, in Chattanooga. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public School System and graduated from Howard High School in 1965. He was a veteran of the United States Army and received an honorable discharge after his years of service. Later he received an Associate Degree from McKenzie College in Chattanooga. He was a long-time member of Olivet Baptist Church. He retired from TVA after 24 years of service. Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Noah Leroy Thompson Sr.; and brother, Noah Leroy Thompson Jr. Cherishing his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Alma Cortesa Thompson; sons, Ronald E. Thompson Jr. and Marcus D. (Shanika) Thompson, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Ashley and Mya Thompson, Deniqua Lewis, Jaylon Baker Hudson, Makiya Turney; great-grandson, Hayden Burke; mother, Mildred L. Thompson, of Chattanooga; mother-in-law, Martha Tignor, of Anniston, Ala.; sisters, Novella Harris, of San Antonio, Texas; Deborah (Jerome) Jackson, of Chattanooga; Shawanna Tipton, of Knoxville; Elder Katrina Thompson, of Chattanooga; brother, Clevon and Anthony Thompson, of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Charlie L. (Robin) Tignor Jr., of Boston, Mass.; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral service will be held at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Olivet Baptist Church. Interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
