Since 1983, Groce has served as the host and artistic director of Mountain Stage, a two-hour live music program produced by West Virginia Public Radio and distributed by NPR. He first entered the national spotlight in 1976 when his novelty song "Junk Food Junkie" became a Top Ten hit. Taken from the compilation CD "Dumb Ditties", released in 1993. It is noted on the insert that this is not the original version, that it is a "new stereo recording". Although it is not the original recording, it is still the original artist, so this is a really nice gem for anyone craving the track in high quality.

Live in Illinois (recorded early 80s) Well he got me on his knees, bounced me around a bit. Played an Ernest Tubb song, never wanted him to quit. He sang "Walkin' the floor over you, little one". How was I to know then that's the way my life was gonna run. And it's "Hey Uncle Willard, I'm pickin' like you wanted me to. It's not real country though; it's a little bit blue. But the people seem to like it, that's enough to get me through. I'm not making any money, but I'm doing what I want to do." As a child I always kept my ear glued to the radio. Oh, me and my sister played all of the VA shows. But I know what will always be my fondest memory, Family reunions, when I got him to play for me. And it's "Hey Uncle Willard, I'm pickin' like you wanted me to. It's not real country though; it'...
From the album "Crescentville" - Daybreak Records 1973 There's a million miles of four-lane concrete highway Stretched out like cobwebs clean across the land And we filled 'em up with shiny two tone ramblers Fords, Plymouths, Chevys, Mac trucks, VW vans But our wheels are no longer innocent, with their rolling frames of mind Decorated with decals like the war And there's a lot of people trying to tell the story of their life In a two-bit bumper sticker on their car Keep your city clean, eat a pigeon War ain't no good for kids and other things Love America or you can leave it Come see the friendly folks down at Kamping King Visit Royal Gorge, Dump Nixon All the way with the Mets, Don't forget the MIA's Remember the Pueblo, Thank a green plant Dim it dammit, and Have a very nice day When ...

In 1974 I brought Larry Groce and the Currence Brothers out from West Virginia to play concerts in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. Here are the Currence Brothers, Jimmy, Lody and Malcolm, along with Larry Groce and Berke McKelvy. I'm in there too, in the Argyle sweater vest clowning around. Everyone stayed at my Victorian house in downtown Los Angeles for a week. As soon as I heard them playing, I booked some recording studio time and made the album from which many of these songs were taken. The album was later re-released along with Larry's hit song "Junkfood Junkie". Of course, there's footage of when I took them to Disneyland. Other footage is from around my house, near USC's Campus, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.
"Dixie", also known as "Dixie's Land", "I Wish I Was in Dixie", and other titles, is a popular American song. It is one of the most distinctively American musical products of the 19th century, and probably the best-known song to have come out of blackface minstrelsy. Although not a folk song at its creation, "Dixie" has since entered the American folk vernacular. The song likely cemented the word "Dixie" in the American vocabulary as a toponym for the Southern United States. Although most sources credit Ohio-born Daniel Decatur Emmett with the song's composition, other people have claimed to have composed "Dixie", even during Emmett's lifetime. Compounding the problem of definitively establishing the song's authorship are Emmett's own confused accounts of its writing, and his tardiness in...
