Eric R. Poole takes to the range with the new McMillian CS5 Sniper Rifle (filmed with an iPhone 4S). The McMillan CS5 "Stubby" offers the latest stealth technology with its suppressed 12.5-inch stainless barrel. Unparalleled concealment is achieved through its disassembled design that allows this compact precision bolt rifle to fit in a portable case or backpack. When assembled, this short-barreled rifle (SBR) measures only 23 inches in overall length with suppressor attached. Since match-quality .308 subsonic ammunition was unavailable during development, a collaborative effort was made with Barnes Ammunition to create a special 200-grain load that was ideal for suppressed applications. During testing, this load averaged just 1,100 feet per second and produced .75 to 1.25 MOA groups at typical law enforcement sniping distances. This rifle features a half-quad, free-float forend, a magwell that accepts SR-25 type magazines, and an overall weight of 12 pounds with suppressor. The action is being called the McMillan ALIAS, and plans to launch the ALIAS line by SHOT Show 2013. This line will include the ALIAS CS5 with 12.5-inch barrel, the ALIAS STAR with 18- to 24-inch barrel length, and the ALIAS T2K with 24- to 30-inch barrel length. McMillan also reports that typical subsonic muzzle velocities should range between 950 to 1,050 feet per second.
