Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI), or magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to image the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body in both health and disease. MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields, radio waves, and field gradients to form images of the body.

UPDATE: Questions about why we were doing what we were doing? Please see the FAQ under "MRI magnet quench: the movie." That video is also entertaining, btw. Fun, games and safety implications with a 4 tesla (T) MRI magnet that was about to be decommissioned. Note how magnetic objects let loose tend to oscillate along the magnet bore. That's because the peak magnetic field gradients are at either end (near the magnet face), causing peak acceleration as the object enters, followed by progressively damped changes of direction. See practiCalfMRI.blogspot.com for more information.
Dr. Howard Hart Jr. - pioneer in MRI design describes how the MRI works. (In HD). Part of the "Wizards of Schenectady Series - Carl H. Rosner". Learn about traditional nuclear magnetic resonance imaging used in most hospitals in the world.
Describes the basic physics of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and relevant terms such as T1 & T2 relaxation, pulse sequence, frequency and phase encoding, T1WI and T2WI. Introduces the landmark papers of Drs. Damadian and Lauterbur that made magnetic resonance imaging a reality.
Meet Scott, a technologist for Michigan Residence Imaging. In this video Scott will take you through the procedure of recieving an MRI for your brain. Real video representation plays alongside narration to help give a better understanding of this thirty minute operation and ease any concerns you may have about your own appointment.
This short, child-friendly video explains to kids and their families everything they need to know about having an awake MRI scan. Particularly, it is aimed at preparing children aged between four and ten, who have either never had a scan before or are trying it for the first time without a General Anaesthetic. Along with positive reinforcement from parents and carers, it will enhance the experience of young children who come to the hospital for this test.

All important and clinically relevant aspects are presented in a clearly structured manner. The emphasis is on practical information including the latest trends and developments that are relevant for Mri in the clinical setting. The opening chapters describe the underlying physical principles of the Mr experiment and the basic pulse sequences commonly used in clinical Mri. Other chapters are dedicated to more advanced techniques such as parallel imaging and cardiovascular Mr imaging. The book is rounded out by chapters on Mr contrast media, artifacts, high-field imaging, and saf...

However, we lack established standards and a good knowledge of the normal Mr appearance. To fill this gap is the purpose of the first part of this book, which is an Mr atlas of the cerebral development of the fetus. The second part is dedicated to cerebral pathologies. It includes, for each condition, a summary of the fundamental data, the imaging findings (us and Mr) in correlation with neurofetopathology and/or postnatal imaging, and a brief perspective of the prognosis.
