The "Lost Generation" was the generation that came of age during World War I. The term was popularized by Ernest Hemingway, who used it as one of two contrasting epigraphs for his novel, The Sun Also Rises. In that volume Hemingway credits the phrase to Gertrude Stein, who was then his mentor and patron. This generation included artists and a group of writers who came of age during the war such as F. Scott Fitzgerald,T. S. Eliot, James Joyce, Sherwood Anderson, John Dos Passos, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, Waldo Peirce, Isadora Duncan, Abraham Walkowitz, Alan Seeger, Franz Kafka, Henry Miller, Aldous Huxley, Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Erich Maria Remarque and the composers Sergei Prokofiev, Paul Hindemith, George Gershwin, and Aaron Copland.
In A Moveable Feast, published after Hemingway's and Stein's deaths, Hemingway claims that Stein heard the phrase from a garage owner who serviced Stein's car. When a young mechanic failed to repair the car quickly enough, the garage owner shouted at the boy, "You are all a "génération perdue." Stein, in telling Hemingway the story, added, "That is what you are. That's what you all are ... all of you young people who served in the war. You are a lost generation."
Biography is a documentary television series with three separate original broadcast runs; in syndication, on network, CBS, and the current one on cable, A&E, The Biography Channel and then FYI.
The original 1961-63 version was a half-hour filmed series produced for Syndication by David Wolper and hosted by Mike Wallace. The A&E Network repeated these films prior to producing new episodes beginning in 1987. The older version featured historical figures such as Helen Keller and Mark Twain, or deceased entertainers and actors such as Will Rogers and John Barrymore. The A&E series placed the emphasis on show business personalities and popular newsmakers such as Marilyn Monroe, Carmen Miranda, Elvis Presley, Plácido Domingo, Freddie Mercury, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Eric Clapton, Pope John Paul II, Gene Tierney, Selena, Diego Rivera, Mao Zedong and Queen Elizabeth II, and fictional characters like The Phantom, Superman, Hamlet, Betty Boop and Santa Claus. A 1979 revival of Biography aired briefly on CBS covering a more recent collection of celebrities ranging from Idi Amin to Walt Disney, which was then narrated by David Janssen. With this large back catalog of profiled figures, A&E, in 1999, spun off a separate network, The Biography Channel.

Novelist Jay McInerney explores the life and writing of F Scott Fitzgerald, whose masterwork The Great Gatsby has just been filmed for the fifth time. Fitzgerald captured the reckless spirit of New York life in the roaring twenties - the flappers, the parties, the bootleg liquor, the inevitable reckoning, and the hangover to come. In Gatsby, he created a character who reinvented himself for love - just as Fitzgerald would, not once, but twice. Fitzgerald never wrote an autobiography. He left us something better - letters. Romantic, arrogant, humble letters; letters to editors, publishers, lovers, or friends. These letters reveal the inner thoughts of a man whose real life was never far from the fiction he wrote.

'The Stolen Generations' was a chosen topic for my Modern History project, Year 12, class of 2009 at St James College, Brisbane QLD, Australia. Please note that I was in high school. I do not in anyway claim my internet research to be of absolute truth. I encourage viewers to conduct further self-research for verification purpose. Most important of all, I hope this raises social awareness and change, rather than hate.

Full biography of Frank Sinatra Sith Frank Sinatra was the essence of cool - the first pop idol, the first entertainer to trigger mass hysteria. He seduced impossibly gorgeous women. He was an American icon. But his career was partly made - and nearly broken - by the Mafia. He was closer to Mafia chiefs than almost anyone imagined. In his glamorous heyday, Sinatra was courted by politicians. The mob saw him as a potential link to the White House. Bitterly disappointed when he failed to get JFK to go easy on organised crime, they sent him the severed, bloody head of a lamb. Did such a supremely talented man really need the dark power of the Mafia? For decades, Sinatra tried to hide his ties to the mob. This is the story that in his lifetime could never have been told... ... ... FAIR USE ...

Beautiful girl, from the southland
I don’t quite understand, but I know who you are
Last night you told me about your sister
How you loved and how you missed her
I don’t know why but you say that you like me
But sometimes yeah, you despise me
You tell me you’re the lost generation
So much anger, and so much frustration
It’s not your fault it’s the situation
When all you want is to rest your body
Under the sun, in the long grass
Your life has not been fun this is clear
You don’t understand why
Everybody else has got every little thing
You joined a group but you don’t sing
I know that you’ve got things to say
You want tomorrow, when it’s still today
You tell me you’re the lost generation
I saw you talk on Face the Nation
You want the truth, you seek salvation
But you got no time, you got no patience
Your daddy’s a big shot in construction
Your mother’s just had liposuction
You thought that your life came with a list of
instructions
All you want is to lay your body down
It’s love that we seek
The future looks
Sometimes we feel so small
Hate the ones who spoiled it all
You tell me you’re the lost generation
All you want is a good occupation
Then you drink too much you spit damnation
Start to sound like my old poor relations
But don’t worry darling it’ll be alright
There’s nothing to win nobody to fight
What seems wrong may soon be right
Under the moon we’ll lay our bodies down
Lay our bodies down in the long grass under the sun
