What you are about to see is a newsreel of Game 4 of the 1939 World Series on October 8th between the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds, highlighted by Joe DiMaggio's daring base running. It was shown in movie theaters along with news of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union completing their conquest of Poland at the outset of World War II. Baseball, like the New York World's Fair, was a distraction from calamitous world events, but it could not overshadow the horrifying events occurring in Europe and Asia which would eventually draw the United States into World War II.
Professional baseball continued during World War II even after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Many of the sport's well-known athletes served in the U.S. armed forces, including Yankees' star Joe DiMaggio who enlisted in the Army at a time when the government classified his parents as enemy aliens.

Joe DiMaggio
Joseph Paul "Joe" DiMaggio (/dᵻˈmɑːʒioʊ/ or /dᵻˈmædʒioʊ/; Italian: [diˈmaddʒo]; November 25, 1914 – March 8, 1999), born Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio, nicknamed "Joltin' Joe" and "The Yankee Clipper", was an American Major League Baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year career for the New York Yankees. He is perhaps best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16, 1941), a record that still stands.
DiMaggio was a three-time MVP winner and an All-Star in each of his 13 seasons. During his tenure with the Yankees, the club won ten American League pennants and nine World Series championships.
At the time of his retirement, he ranked fifth in career home runs (361) and sixth in career slugging percentage (.579). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955, and was voted the sport's greatest living player in a poll taken during the baseball centennial year of 1969.
His brothers Vince (1912–1986) and Dom (1917–2009) also were major league center fielders.

"It Was" is a song written by Mark Wright and Gary Burr, and recorded by American country music artist Chely Wright. It was released in September 1999 as the second single from her album Single White Female. The song reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in April 2000.
Critical reception
Deborah Evans Price of Billboard gave the song a favorable review, saying that it "has a hauntingly beautiful melody and affecting lyric about the mercurial nature of love" and that "Wright possesses a strong voice, full of emotional depth and presence."

The music video was directed by Deaton-Flanigen Productions and premiered in August 1999.

The Way It Was (TV series)
The Way It Was was a 1974 to 1978 PBS television series featuring athletes reminiscing about a particular sporting event from the past. Hosted by Curt Gowdy, the bulk of the 30-minute broadcast was dedicated to rebroadcasting the game, uninterrupted but in edited form, with a short 5-minute discussion segment at the end of the show. The show is also notable for its computer animated intro with the song "Happy Days Are Here Again".
Gerry Gross, who created Sports Challenge, produced the show in association with KCET in Los Angeles. PBS aired the show from October 3, 1974 to 1978. Mobil Corporation provided major funding for the series, and had also released a 1975 book on the series, as a tie-in with the show's first season.
In 1976, the show was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Edited Sports Series."
Reruns currently air on ESPN Classic, occasionally under banner titles such as NFL's Greatest Games or Classic World Series Film.

Children of the World
Children of the World is the 14th album released by the Bee Gees in September 1976. The first single, "You Should Be Dancing", went to No. 1 in the US and Canada, and was a top ten hit in numerous other territories. The album has sold over 2.5 million copies. It was the group's fourteenth album (twelfth internationally). The album was re-issued by Reprise and Rhino Records. This was the first record featuring the Gibb-Galuten-Richardson production team which would have many successful collaborations in the following years.
Background
Because their manager Robert Stigwood had ended his US distribution arrangement with Atlantic Records, Atlantic producer Arif Mardin, who had produced the Bee Gees' prior two albums, was no longer permitted to work with the group. In an effort to retain the same sound, the group recorded at the same studios (Criteria Studios in Miami). At first, they recruited producer Richard Perry, but they parted company after only a couple of weeks over the musical direction the group should take. At this point the Bee Gees decided to produce the album themselves, with Barry Gibb taking the lead role, along with engineer Karl Richardson. They added young musician and arranger Albhy Galuten to the control room as musical adviser. The new team saw the group through a series of top selling recordings over the next four years.

What you are about to see is a newsreel of Game 4 of the 1939 World Series on October 8th between the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds, highlighted by Joe DiMaggio's daring base running. It was shown in movie theaters along with news of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union completing their conquest of Poland at the outset of World War II. Baseball, like the New York World's Fair, was a distraction from calamitous world events, but it could not overshadow the horrifying events occurring in Europe and Asia which would eventually draw the United States into World War II.
Professional baseball continued during World War II even after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Many of the sport's well-known athletes served in the U.S. armed forces, including Yankees' star Joe DiMaggio who enlisted in the Army at a time when the government classified his parents as enemy aliens.

Joe DiMaggio
Joseph Paul "Joe" DiMaggio (/dᵻˈmɑːʒioʊ/ or /dᵻˈmædʒioʊ/; Italian: [diˈmaddʒo]; November 25, 1914 – March 8, 1999), born Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio, nicknamed "Joltin' Joe" and "The Yankee Clipper", was an American Major League Baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year career for the New York Yankees. He is perhaps best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16, 1941), a record that still stands.
DiMaggio was a three-time MVP winner and an All-Star in each of his 13 seasons. During his tenure with the Yankees, the club won ten American League pennants and nine World Series championships.
At the time of his retirement, he ranked fifth in career home runs (361) and sixth in career slugging percentage (.579). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955, and was voted the sport's greatest living player in a poll taken during the baseball centennial year of 1969.
His brothers Vince (1912–1986) and Dom (1917–2009) also were major league center fielders.
