October 7 2016 saw a mighty clash between Mollywood superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty after 15 years. Fans were waiting to know, who would emerge a winner at the box office. And now we have the answer. While both movies have received positive reviews, Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan is racing ahead only to leave behind Mammootty’s film. On day 1 itself Mohanlal’s movie beat Mammotty’s film as it went on to collect Rs 4.08 crore, at the Kerala Box office as opposed to Rs 2.03 as per certain reports and 1.65 crore as per other reports. from Thoppil Joppan. What’s more it also beat Mammotty’s Kasaba day 1 collection, Vijay’s Theri day 1 collection. The movie has been lauded for its direction, visuals, Mohanlal’s performance. On day 2 as per reports the film has crossed 7 crore and now reports state, it has crossed the 10 crore mark in 3 days. As for Thoppil Joppan, the movie has collected Rs 4.75 crore. So as of now, Pulimurugan is winning. History repeats itself as even in 2001, it was Mohanlal’s film that had emerged a winner. The best part, while PuliMurugan has just hit screens, it’s also competing with Lal sir’s previous movie Oppam that is still running in theatres. So far the movie has collected Rs 29 crore in 21 days. So it’s like a battle between Pulimrurgan and Oppam now. But at the end of the day, it’s a win win for the Malayalam superstar.
