Melbourne's worst parker? Ferrari caught taking up multiple spots

The title of Melbourne's worst parker has plenty of contenders. Add this effort to the list.

A Ferrari worth nearly half a million dollars has been snapped parking across multiple spaces in the city's east.

Comedian Geraldine Hickey, who posted the photo online, said she saw the car enjoying the roomy park at a shopping strip in Kew around 5pm on Sunday.

No one was in the car at the time, she said.

"I was like 'how is the entitlement of the owner of that car?", she said.

"We've all seen a crappy Toyota sitting across two parks but a Ferrari just takes it to another extra level."

Ms Hickey said the shot was taken out the back of Leo's Fine Foods, a fancy supermarket specialising in gourmet produce.

As one of her friends commented, it may have been a "fetta stuffed olives emergency". Someone else suggested the length of the car might have made it difficult to park correctly.

"If that's the case, then maybe walk to the shops," she said.

It turns out the Ferrari 488 GTB , which does zero to 100km/h in three seconds, belongs to tech entrepreneur Sam Bashiry, founder of the South Melbourne-based business Broadband Solutions.

The Kew resident and Iranian refugee was profiled earlier this year on how he turned a $1000 router into a $15 million internet business.

When contacted by Fairfax Media, Mr Bashiry gave a number of different excuses for why he took up the extra spot.

Initially, he said he was concerned about the safety of his expensive ride (which retails at $469,888 before on-road costs) in Melbourne's high winds.

"Because it was windy, I was worried about a tree falling on the car," he said.

Then he said he was running into the shops for a bottle of milk. Finally, he said it was to get some medication for bronchitis at the nearby chemist.

"It was only for a few minutes," he said.

Clearly a fan of the Italian luxury car brand, Mr Bashiry regularly posts pictures of Ferraris on social media.

After speaking with Fairfax Media, Mr Bashiry set his Instagram account to private.
