The Eastern District of Texas remains one of the busiest districts in the country for patent infringement litigation. Few districts are more frequently called on to address the Supreme Court’s recent patent law decisions, the effect of co-pending IPR and CBM proceedings at the Patent Office, and legislative reforms. Even with these changes, the Eastern District of Texas continues to see frequent trials and trials that occur relatively sooner than most districts.

Court documents showed a federal judge on Friday dismissed a civil securities fraud case against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The ruling in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas marks a major victory for the Tea Party Republican. He has denied violating securities laws but still faces similar, though criminal, state-level charges.
In April, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Paxton over what the agency said was his role in a stock scam. The scam defrauded investors in a Texas-based technology company called Servergy Inc.

Six thousand inmates across the country will be released from federal prisons on November 1, 2015.
The release is part of an effort by President Obama and Congress to cut down the overcrowded prison population.
The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas says 100 prisoners housed here in the Eastern district of Texas will be released.
Around 25 inmates will be released from the Beaumont facility.
These men and women are some of the 50,000 inmates who were re-sentenced due to changed regulations.
All are drug offenders.
KFDM's Kara Dixon spoke with U.S. Attorney Malcolm Bales about the release and how the government will try to make sure freed inmates will stay out of prison.

PRESS RELEASE:BEAUMONT, Texas A 49-year-old Cameron, LA, man has pleaded guilty to bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales. Allen Keith Miller pleaded guilty to bank robbery today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin. According to information presented in court, on June 25, 2013, Miller entered the Capital One Bank branch office located on 16th Street in Orange, Texas, wearing a blonde wig, baseball cap, long-sleeve shirt, tan pants and a black knee brace. Miller approached a bank teller and presented a hand-written note advising that the bank was being robbed. Miller also advised that he was armed although a weapon was not displayed. Media outlets broadcast footage of the bank robbery and Miller was identified by citizens. Miller was stopped by law enforcement officers in Louisiana, at which time items from the robbery, including the wig, baseball cap, clothing, and knee brace, were located in Millers vehicle. Miller was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 11, 2013 and charged with bank robbery. Miller faces up to 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been set. This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Orange Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Craft.

Federal prisons getting ready to release 6,000 inmates
BEAUMONT-by Kara Dixon Six thousand inmates across the country will be released from federal prisons on November 1, 2015. The release is part of an effort by President Obama and Congress to cut down the overcrowded prison population. The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas says 100 prisoners housed here in the Eastern district of Texas will be released. Around 25 inmates will be released from the Beaumont facility. These men and women are some of the 50,000 inmates who were re-sentenced due to changed regulations. All are drug offenders. KFDM's Kara Dixon spoke with U.S. Attorney Malcolm Bales about the release and how the government will try to make sure freed inmates will stay out of prison.

According to information presented in court, on June 25, 2013, Miller entered the Capital One Bank branch office located on 16th Street in Orange, Texas, wearing a blonde wig, baseball cap, long-sleeve shirt, tan pants and a black knee brace. Miller approached a bank teller and presented a hand-written note advising that the bank was being robbed. Miller also advised that he was armed although a weapon was not displayed. The jury found Microsoft liable for willful infringement, rejecting the company's argument that the patent was invalid, and awarded $200 million in damages to i4i.
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas denied Microsoft's motions for a new trial. And the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld the district court order, finding that Microsoft needed to offer "clear and convincing evidence" to overcome the traditional presumption that patents approved by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office are valid.

Two Wisconsin men have been arrested in San Angelo, Texas, on charges of providing material support to ISIS. The men were traveling to Mexico and allegedly had plans to travel on to Iraq or Syria. Jason Michael Ludke, 35, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Yosvany Padilla-Conde, 30, an illegal alien who has been living in Wisconsin, were arrested on October 5 by Tom Green County Sheriff David Jones and a team of federal agents ... ....
