Freedom Fry

Freedom Fry is an American indie pop band from Los Angeles, California, United States, composed of Parisian-born Marie Seyrat and American Bruce Driscoll.

Let The Games Begin EP

The duo first met in April 2011 when Seyrat was the stylist on a video for Driscoll's other band Blondfire. Impressed by Seyrat's whispery voice, Driscoll asked her if she would be interested in writing some songs together. In August they recorded and released the Let The Games Begin EP.

The video for the first single, Tallest Dreams, starred Gia Mantegna, daughter of actor Joe Mantegna.

The last song on the EP, Rolling Down, was featured on the season 7 premiere of Bones, during the birth of the main character's baby, Christine.

"Earthquake"

Their follow up single and video, "Earthquake", was released on Valentine's Day 2012. It was named single-of-the-week by French music magazine Les Inrockuptibles.

Glamour Magazine included Earthquake in their 100th issue anniversary playlist. French underwear brand "Princesse Tam.Tam" also used the song in their making of video for Winter 2012.

Liberty

Liberty, in philosophy, involves free will as contrasted with determinism. In politics, liberty consists of the social and political freedoms enjoyed by all citizens. In theology, liberty is freedom from the bondage of sin. Generally, liberty seems to be distinct from freedom in that freedom concerns itself primarily, if not exclusively, with the ability to do as one wills and what one has the power to do; whereas liberty also takes into account the rights of all involved. As such, liberty can be thought of as freedom limited by rights, and therefore cannot be abused.

Philosophy

Philosophers from earliest times have considered the question of liberty. Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121–180 AD) wrote of "a polity in which there is the same law for all, a polity administered with regard to equal rights and equal freedom of speech, and the idea of a kingly government which respects most of all the freedom of the governed." According to Thomas Hobbes, "a free man is he that in those things which by his strength and wit he is able to do is not hindered to do what he hath the will to do" (Leviathan, Part 2, Ch. XXI).

Shaky Ground

Shaky Ground is a TV sitcom created by Bob Keyes, Chip Keyes & Doug Keyes, which starred Matt Frewer as Bob Moody, a hapless, but supportive and caring father. Robin Riker played his wife and Matthew Brooks, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Bradley Pierce played their children. The show aired on FOX for the 1992-1993 season.

Theme

Bob Moody was mid-life, mid-career, middle-management and middle-class. He worked as a quality control inspector for United General Technologies. He loved his family and worked hard to support them, but in ways was struggling with adulthood as well. Episodes often focused on Bob's thwarted ambitions at work, or the fact that he was not a traditional husband and father at home. Bob managed to get by as a result of finding the confidence to accept himself. Some episodes were surrealistic in nature, such as Bob trying an experimental hair restoration product only to find it has resulted in him slowly becoming a werewolf. In another episode he takes up "Dance Fu", a combination of the martial arts and jazz dancing, in order to protect his family's right to go to a restaurant after a bully from work threatens him. Other episodes were more down to earth. In one Bob stages a sit-in in his younger son's treehouse in order to protest oppressive zoning laws which demand the treehouse be demolished. In another episode Bob is asked to stay in the kitchen in order to avoid embarrassing his daughter at her first party. But when the party proves a disaster, Bob livens it up with disco music and a game of Twister to the enjoyment of all involved; he then helps his daughter approach a boy she liked. However outlandish the situations became, the series was always grounded in family life.

Bruce Driscoll

Bruce Driscoll (born June 13, 1983) is a Brazilian American record producer, songwriter, guitarist, film composer and vocalist. He first gained notability as one half of the indie pop band Astaire (now Blondfire); co-writing, producing and self-releasing songs with his sister, Erica.

In 2011, he formed the band Freedom Fry with his wife, the Parisian singer/songwriter and producer Marie Seyrat.

Biography

Early life and career

Bruce Driscoll was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. He started playing piano and drums at an early age then picked up the guitar when he was fifteen, inspired by the sound of guitarists Johnny Marr and George Harrison. Taking quickly to the instrument, he began accompanying his two sisters, Monica and Erica, in a band called Nectar. In order to free himself to tour with the group he withdrew from traditional high school and completed an independent study program through the University of Missouri.

The siblings embarked on a national tour and eventually landed a development deal with EMI Publishing when Bruce Driscoll was aged 17. Soon after they showcased for many of the US major record labels, including Warner Bros. Records, Maverick, and Capitol. In 2002, they won Runner Up in the Pop Category for the UK Songwriting Contest with the song, "Life Out Loud". Later that year the siblings disbanded over creative differences.
