Which Mics Do I Use?
For voiceovers/commentary: I use the Blue Snowball or the Audio-Technica ATR2100 for all my video voiceovers.
For filming with my DSLR: I either use the Rode VideoMic Pro or the Zoom H1 paired with a Sony lav mic.

I bought them from Jet.com. There is a 15% off first time buyer discount. I also googled "jet coupon" and found another coupon. BUT I order these in December of 2015 and they were $9.99 a piece. I just checked the website and they are now $13 a piece. So that is why you can not find them for as cheap as I did.

I bought them from Jet.com. There is a 15% off first time buyer discount. I also googled "jet coupon" and found another coupon. BUT I order these in December of 2015 and they were $9.99 a piece. I bought them from Jet.com. There is a 15% off first time buyer discount. I also googled "jet coupon" and found another coupon. BUT I order these in December of 2015 and they were $9.99 a piece. I just checked the website and they are now $13 a piece. So that is why you can not find them for as cheap as I did.

Get off those laptop speakers and switch your video stream to HD as Justin Colletti takes us through a handful of the most popular approaches for placing stereo room mics.
This video takes place at Strange Weather Brooklyn, and is filmed by Elias Gwinn of Velidoxi and the recording studio documentary series, "Masters From Their Day."
In this clip, you'll hear examples of room mics used in a real-world context: Blended in loud over a basic set of close mics.
Once again, we'll be using a set of microphones provided by Sennheiser, this time focusing on the e914 small-diaphragm condenser mic.
All the clips are presented with no EQ, compression, or effects processing of any kind. If you'd like to hear what these close mics sound like without the room mics blended in, refer to the "Mono Overhead" example from the first episode in this series, here:

Welcome back for Part 3 of our free drum mic video series.
Get off those laptop speakers and switch your video stream to HD as Justin Colletti takes us through a handful of the most popular approaches for placing stereo room mics.
This video takes place at Strange Weather Brooklyn, and is filmed by Elias Gwinn of Velidoxi and the recording studio documentary series, "Masters From Their Day."
In this clip, you'll hear examples of room mics used in a real-world context: Blended in loud over a basic set of close mics.
Once again, we'll be using a set of microphones provided by Sennheiser, this time focusing on the e914 small-diaphragm condenser mic.
All the clips are presented with no EQ, compression, or effects processing of any kind. If you'd like to hear what these close mics sound like without the room mics blended in, refer to the "Mono Overhead" example from the first episode in this series, here:

With great tonal response and faithfulness, the JK microphones provide a great sound quality for only $30. Although the Sennheiser appears to have better build quality, they're known for failing due to lack of strain relief. That being said, I didn't find the slightly muffled highs of the the Sennheiser as pleasing as the JK 017. If you're looking for an affordable lapel microphone at this point I'm pleased to recommend the JK Mic-J 017, I'll update this review if I find any faults as time goes on.

On March 20th, 2016 I entered a studio and did something I have never done before as a recording engineer. I attempted to record a band with one stereo microphone. This technique puts a lot of pressure on the band to not only perform well but balance themselves as you would during the mixing process. A lot of time is spent arranging the players in the room, adjusting their levels and getting them comfortable with their mix. On March 20th, 2016 I entered a studio and did something I have never done before as a recording engineer. I attempted to record a band with one stereo microphone. This technique puts a lot of pressure on the band to not only perform well but balance themselves as you would during the mixing process. A lot of time is spent arranging the players in the room, adjusting their levels and getting them comfortable with their mix. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if it could be done with electric guitars and drums - but it worked great. Thank you San Geronimo for putting up with me and bringing their A game to the session. Thank you 25th Street Recording and AEA Ribbon Mics for supplying me the room and microphone. Thank you Scott Bergstrom for giving me a hand on the session. The signal path for recording was AEA R88 microphone / API preamp / API 550A EQ +2db @ 12.5k shelf / -2db @ 200 hZ bell / Alan Smart c2 compressor @ 2:1 / ART-102 tape recorder @+6 30ips.

Hello everyone! This ASMR video features over 90 minutes of triggers with 9 different microphones, including soft speaking and whispering trigger words, tapping on the gravel goblet, crinkling of the coil, and SK SKSK SKSKSK. I thought this would be helpful for other ASMRtists, and viewers who are thinking about making ASMR videos, or just people who are looking into purchasing microphones. Since this is a comparison video, I did not process any of the audio in Audacity to minimize background noise---I wanted this to be an honest display of the microphones in a way that wasn't just me reading their properties off a website. Touching Microphones ASMR ♥︎ Soft Touches, Tapping & Scratching
Touching different microphones for ASMR tingles and relaxation with whispering and soft speaking. Each microphone produces a different sound when touched, scratched or tapped so I wanted to experiment with those in a video. You will hear a little reverb as there were so many mics on at the same time but hopefully that will be a trigger in itself. I did a lot of sound editing to minimise the intensity of it so we shall see! This is a pretty unconventional way to record sound but I enjoy trying new things. It will be interesting for me to know how the video makes you feel! I hope you've had a lovely weekend, the weather has been perfectly autumnal where I am. Hello everyone! This ASMR video features over 90 minutes of triggers with 9 different microphones, including soft speaking and whispering trigger words, tapping on the gravel goblet, crinkling of the coil, and SK SKSK SKSKSK. I thought this would be helpful for other ASMRtists, and viewers who are thinking about making ASMR videos, or just people who are looking into purchasing microphones. Since this is a comparison video, I did not process any of the audio in Audacity to minimize background noise---I wanted this to be an honest display of the microphones in a way that wasn't just me reading their properties off a website. All mics were recorded at the same volume, so you will hear differences in volume, sensitivity, electrical feedback, clarity, etc. I can't believe we've gone through 9 mics (10 if you count the camera's mic) so far on this channel in 2 years. The legendary Wiley Vs Kano clash gets a lot of recognition, the Footsie Vs Scratchy clash also and the other clashes on the DVD get significantly less but the mix CD gets near to no recognition at all. I've uploaded this to show Grime fans there's more to the original LOTM than the clashes up on YouTube and hopefully this will give you an incentive to buy this classic DVD and add it to your Grime collection.

Touching different microphones for ASMR tingles and relaxation with whispering and soft speaking. Each microphone produces a different sound when touched, scratched or tapped so I wanted to experiment with those in a video. You will hear a little reverb as there were so many mics on at the same time but hopefully that will be a trigger in itself. I did a lot of sound editing to minimise the intensity of it so we shall see! This is a pretty unconventional way to record sound but I enjoy trying new things. It will be interesting for me to know how the video makes you feel!
