Green Day tour announced

Green Day, veterans not only of the second and third waves of punk but of several trips to rehab and therapy, will tour Australia in 2017.

The California trio, who formed at school in 1986 and had their first worldwide hit in 1994 with the album, Dookie, will play a series of arena shows in April and May.

Long established as not just teen-favourite punks but major artists with several high-selling concept albums, and a Broadway musical based on one of those concepts, backed by highly stylised stage shows, Green Day were last heard from in 2012 with the staggered release of three albums in the one year.

The 2017 tour will follow the release of the band's 12th album this month, called Revolution Radio.

Green Day will play Perth Arena on April 30, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, on May 3, Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, on May 5, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, on May 8, and Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, on May 10.

Tickets are on sale from October 18
