Noble Park Bowls Club launches barefoot bowls and after-school program to attract new players

NOBLE Park Bowls Club is wooing younger players onto the green with an after-school program.

Development officer Reg Vernon said he was on a mission to boost numbers at the Moodemere St club, which formed in 1987 and has more than 200 members.

“We think (the program) will benefit the community through strengthening our club and continuing to give local youngsters an outlet to play team sport within our community while also building a strong relationship with schools,” Mr Vernon said.

“There are a lot of reasons why bowls is fun. One is that the whole family, youngest to oldest, can play. Bowls is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, cultural background or ability.”

Mr Vernon said their membership fees were among the lowest in the community, and the club offered accredited coaching and competition at all levels.

“You don’t need much equipment to start – flat-soled shoes and a set of bowls,” he said.

“Our club has bowls to loan, and even without the right shoes, there’s barefoot bowls.”

The after-school program is on Wednesdays from 5.30-6.30pm.

Barefoot bowls starts next month. Details: Marj Gissing on 0408 664 226.
