A police officer has been knocked unconscious at a shopping centre in Cairns.
Officers were called to the centre in Manunda late Sunday morning after reports of a man causing a disturbance.
Police allege that, while talking to the man, he elbowed an officer in the face causing him to lose consciousness.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
A man was taken in to custody and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates' Court on Monday.
The 31-year-old Woree man was charged with one count each of serious assault police and public nuisance.
