This 360-degree panorama was acquired by the Mast Camera (Mastcam) on NASA's Curiosity Mars rover while the rover was in an area called "Murray Buttes" on lower Mount Sharp, one of the most scenic landscapes yet visited by any Mars rover.
The view stitches together many individual images taken by Mastcam's left-eye camera on Sept. 4, 2016, during the 1,451st Martian day, or sol, of the mission. The rover's location when it recorded this scene was the site it reached in its Sol 1448 drive. (See map at http://mars.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/images/?ImageID=8015.)
The scene is presented with a color adjustment that approximates white balancing, to resemble how the rocks and sand would appear under daytime lighting conditions on Earth.

Explore this Mars panorama in 360-degrees by moving the view with your mouse or mobile device. This mid-afternoon, 360-degree panorama was acquired by the Mast Camera (Mastcam) on NASA's Curiosity Mars rover on April 4, 2016. The scene is presented with a color adjustment that approximates white balancing, to resemble how the rocks and sand would appear under daytime lighting conditions on Earth.
The view combines dozens of images taken during the mission's 1,302nd sol, or Martian day, by Mastcam's left-eye camera from a location on top of what rover team members call "Naukluft Plateau" on lower Mount Sharp, which stands inside Gale Crater. The science goals of this panorama called only for terrain images, which is why frames showing the sky and rover hardware were not imaged or included in the mosaic.
This science mosaic is part of long-term campaign to document the geology along the rover's traverse since landing in August 2012.
The foreground and middle distance show a geologic scene dominated by eroded remnants of a finely layered ancient sandstone deposit. The sandstone here appears to be dominated by thick layers of windblown sand, suggesting that these deposits formed in a drier epoch.

From Wiki : Spirit, MER-A (Mars Exploration Rover -- A), is a robotic rover on Mars, active from 2004 to 2010. It was one of two rovers of NASA's ongoing Mars Exploration Rover Mission. It landed successfully on Mars at 04:35 Ground UTC on January 4, 2004, three weeks before its twin, Opportunity (MER-B), landed on the other side of the planet. Its name was chosen through a NASA-sponsored student essay competition. The rover became stuck in late 2009, and its last communication with Earth was sent on March 22, 2010.
The rover completed its planned 90-sol mission. Aided by cleaning events that resulted in higher power from its solar panels, Spirit went on to function effectively over twenty times longer than NASA planners expected following mission completion. Spirit also logged 7.73 km (4.8 mi) of driving instead of the planned 600 m (0.4 mi), allowing more extensive geological analysis of Martian rocks and planetary surface features. Initial scientific results from the first phase of the mission (the 90-sol prime mission) were published in a special issue of the journal Science.
On May 1, 2009 (5 years, 3 months, 27 Earth days after landing; 21.6 times the planned mission duration), Spirit became stuck in soft soil. This was not the first of the mission's "embedding events" and for the following eight months NASA carefully analyzed the situation, running Earth-based theoretical and practical simulations, and finally programming the rover to make extrication drives in an attempt to free itself. These efforts continued until January 26, 2010 when NASA officials announced that the rover was likely irrecoverably obstructed by its location in soft soil, though it continued to perform scientific research from its current location.
The rover continued in a stationary science platform role until communication with Spirit stopped on sol 2210 (March 22, 2010). JPL continued to attempt to regain contact until May 24, 2011, when NASA announced that efforts to communicate with the unresponsive rover had ended. A formal farewell was planned at NASA headquarters after the Memorial Day holiday and was televised on NASA TV.

Mars rover
A Mars rover is an automated motor vehicle that propels itself across the surface of the planet Mars upon arrival. Rovers have several advantages over stationary landers: they examine more territory, and they can be directed to interesting features, they can place themselves in sunny positions to weather winter months, and they can advance the knowledge of how to perform very remote robotic vehicle control.
There have been four successful robotically operated Mars rovers. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory managed the Mars Pathfinder mission and its now inactive Sojourner rover. It currently manages the Mars Exploration Rover mission's active Opportunity rover and inactive Spirit, and, as part of the Mars Science Laboratory mission, the Curiosity rover.
On January 24, 2014, NASA reported that current studies on the planet Mars by the Curiosity and Opportunity rovers will now be searching for evidence of ancient life, including a biosphere based on autotrophic, chemotrophic, and/or chemolithoautotrophic microorganisms, as well as ancient water, including fluvio-lacustrine environments (plains related to ancient rivers or lakes) that may have been habitable. The search for evidence of habitability, taphonomy (related to fossils), and organic carbon on the planet Mars is now a primary NASA objective.

From Wiki : Spirit, MER-A (Mars Exploration Rover -- A), is a robotic rover on Mars, active from 2004 to 2010. It was one of two rovers of NASA's ongoing Mars Exploration Rover Mission. It landed successfully on Mars at 04:35 Ground UTC on January 4, 2004, three weeks before its twin, Opportunity (MER-B), landed on the other side of the planet. Its name was chosen through a NASA-sponsored student essay competition. The rover became stuck in late 2009, and its last communication with Earth was sent on March 22, 2010.
The rover completed its planned 90-sol mission. Aided by cleaning events that resulted in higher power from its solar panels, Spirit went on to function effectively over twenty times longer than NASA planners expected following mission completion. Spirit also logged 7.73 km (4.8 mi) of driving instead of the planned 600 m (0.4 mi), allowing more extensive geological analysis of Martian rocks and planetary surface features. Initial scientific results from the first phase of the mission (the 90-sol prime mission) were published in a special issue of the journal Science.
On May 1, 2009 (5 years, 3 months, 27 Earth days after landing; 21.6 times the planned mission duration), Spirit became stuck in soft soil. This was not the first of the mission's "embedding events" and for the following eight months NASA carefully analyzed the situation, running Earth-based theoretical and practical simulations, and finally programming the rover to make extrication drives in an attempt to free itself. These efforts continued until January 26, 2010 when NASA officials announced that the rover was likely irrecoverably obstructed by its location in soft soil, though it continued to perform scientific research from its current location.
The rover continued in a stationary science platform role until communication with Spirit stopped on sol 2210 (March 22, 2010). JPL continued to attempt to regain contact until May 24, 2011, when NASA announced that efforts to communicate with the unresponsive rover had ended. A formal farewell was planned at NASA headquarters after the Memorial Day holiday and was televised on NASA TV.

European Mars lander starts descent to Red Planet
A European lander is headed for Mars as part of a mission to search the Red Planet for signs of life. Schiaparelli has started its descent to Mars after separating itself from the unmanned Trace Gas Orbiter and quitting the mothership ExoMars. The lander is scheduled to touch down on Mars Wednesday, after a three-day solo trip and a seven-month journey. The test stationary lander’s arrival is only the first phase of the project and its sole job is to pave the way for a rover. The rover which is set to drill into mars to scour it for alien life will not be launched before 2020. The Martian probe is a joint mission of the European Space Agency and the Russian Federal Space Agency.

European probe set to touch down on Mars
The European Space Agency’s Schiaparelli spacecraft is on course to land on Mars, after it successfully separated from its mothership, the Trace Gas Orbiter, on Sunday. The probe is due to land on the Red Planet’s surface on Wednesday in a controlled decent, if all goes well. Once there, Schiaparelli is set to take images and conduct scientific measurements. It has also been dispatched to test technology for a future rover mission to Mars.

As the Trace Gas Orbiter flies over Mars, the Schiaparelli lander will study the Martian surface in preparation for the life-hunting ExoMars rover mission scheduled to launch in 2020. The module is on track to land on Mars. If everything goes according to plan, it will touchdown in a region called Meridiani Planum, which is near the planet's equator.
However, landing on the Red Planet is no easy feat. Last week, the Schiaparelli spacecraft received its landing commands, which include discharging the front and back aeroshells and deploying the craft's descent sensors, braking parachute and thrusters for a controlled landing. The lander will have only six minutes to slow down for a safe decent to Mars.
"This week, we uploaded the commands to fully charge the lander's batteries and prepare the orbiter's data-handling system as well as power and thruster system for separation and the subsequent trajectory tweak," Peter Schmitz, spacecraft operations manager, said in the statement on Friday (Oct .14). "Next week, before the big burn, we will place it into a special 'failop' mode to minimize any risk that an onboard glitch could interfere with the firing of the engine, which absolutely must happen at the planned time for us to get into orbit."

A European lander is headed for Mars as part of a mission to search the Red Planet for signs of life.
Schiaparelli has started its descent to Mars after separating itself from the unmanned Trace Gas Orbiter and quitting the mothership ExoMars. The lander is scheduled to touch down on Mars Wednesday, after a three-day solo trip and a seven-month journey. The test stationary lander’s arrival is only the first phase of the project and its sole job is to pave the way for a rover.
The rover which is set to drill into mars to scour it for alien life will not be launched before 2020. The Martian probe is a joint mission of the European Space Agency and the Russian Federal Space Agency.

After a seven-month-long journey, a joint European-Russian Mars lander separates from its mothership and heads toward the red planet's surface. Diane Hodges reports.
Celebration at the operations center of the European Space Agency in Darmstadt, Germany, after their Mars lander successfully separated from its mothership.
The lander is now headed to the surface of the red planet, part of the ExoMars European-Russian joint mission to search for signs of life on the planet -- past or present.
The mothership has an atmospheric probe to study trace gases, such as methane, around the planet.
The lander itself reaches Mars on Wednesday and will test technologies for Europe's first-ever Mars rover for a few days before it dies.
But it'll be 2020 before the mission's second stage actually lands a rover on Mars.
That rover will move across the surface and drill into the ground to collect and analyze samples for scientists on earth to study 35 million miles away.

An experimental probe is expected to land on Mars this week, as part of a joint European-Russian mission... aimed at exploring the Red Planet's atmosphere and searching for signs of life.

The 600-kilogram probe named Schiaparelli separated from an unmanned craft called the Trace Gas Orbiter on Sunday, after its seven month journey from Earth.
The European Space Agency announced that the probe's entry, descent and landing demonstrator module all went according to plan.
"We have confirmation that the separation has occurred and we have also confirmation that the EDM switched on its transmitter, and that the radar telescope in India could pick up the signal. So this is very good news on the EDM side."
Schiaparelli is expected to enter Mars' atmosphere at a speed of 21,000 kilometers an hour.
Once on the surface,... it will take images of Mars and conduct scientific measurements, but its main purpose is to test technology for a future European Mars rover.
Its mother ship will remain in orbit to analyze gases in the Martian atmosphere to help answer whether there is or was life on Mars.
However, the latest signals received from the orbiter did not contain data on the lander's onboard status.
"..It's an unexpected configuration of the spacecraft. The spacecraft is still there, it's transmitting, so I'm quite confident that in the next hours we will understand more."
The latest mission, led by the ESA along with Russia's Roscosmos space agency, is the second European attempt to land a craft on Mars, after Britain's infamous Beagle 2 vanished on Christmas Day in 2003.

The team developing NASA's next rover mission to Mars has received a go-ahead from the agency to proceed with building the rover for launch in 2020. A July 15 Facebook Live event from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory featured updated news about the Mars 2020 rover and its mission. It will be almost identical to the Curiosity rover currently on Mars, but will have enhanced landing technology, the ability to prepare soil and rock samples for return to Earth and microphones to capture sound. The rover will look for signs of past life in a region of the Red Planet where the ancient environment was favorable for microbial life.

There is lots of evidence, however, that those very “space” vehicles may have been taking photographs of the Earth since 1976. Andrew Johnson joins Richard once again to go through the newly updates Mars rover hypothesis. We also discuss a theory on how the hoax may be being orchestrated.

The Curiosity rover landed on Mars in 2012 and has found clear evidence that the planet was once a habitable place for life in the ancient past. The discovery of organic molecules and methane are further pieces of evidence as Curiosity continues its mission.
"When we look at Mars, we have to wonder did life happen there as well? If so, what happened to it?" Gentry Lee, a veteran engineer with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory overseeing Curiosity, said in a statement. "If life evolved first on Mars, what’s the possibility that life was knocked off of Mars and carried all the way to the planet Earth? Perhaps you and I and everything that’s living on the planet Earth are Martians!"
