Aegis is to the masses what Side A is to the yuppies. And because of sheer numbers, it’s safe to presume that Aegis is reaching a far wider market than any other band in the country today.
The Aegis band consists of five girls and a guy whom the girls tease has already become one of the girls. Of course, they’re just kidding. It’s nothing more than a loving joke brought about by togetherness and a strong bond of friendship of more than 10 years and counting.
It’s hard to believe a musical group could last this long, traveling on foreign shores, sharing rooms, food, stories and lives altogether. But that’s the truth. Aegis is like family, much more than what a college fraternity or sorority can offer. It’s more than just an extension of their families strewn in different parts of the country. Aegis members represent the three major islands of the Philippines.
Juliet and Mercy Sunot, the lead vocalists, come all the way from Cagayan de Oro. The bassist Rowena “Weng” Pinpin is from Pampanga. Keyboardist Stella is from Misamis Occidental while drummer Vilma Goloviogo’s a Manileña. Only boy in the group, Rey Abenoja hails from Leyte.
To the members, having joined Aegis is the best thing that ever happened to them. Sure, they had been singing with other groups before, but it was only when they got together as Aegis that they felt this strong unseen link that has been seeing them through all these years.

Aegis
The aegis or aigis (Ancient Greek: Αἰγίς; English pronunciation: /ˈiːdʒɪs/), as stated in the Iliad, is carried by Athena and Zeus, but its nature is uncertain. It had been interpreted as an animal skin or a shield, sometimes bearing the head of a Gorgon. There may be a connection with a deity named Aex or Aix, a daughter of Helios and a nurse of Zeus or alternatively a mistress of Zeus (Hyginus, Astronomica 2. 13). The aegis of Athena is referred to in several places in the Iliad. "It produced a sound as from a myriad roaring dragons (Iliad, 4.17) and was borne by Athena in battle ... and among them went bright-eyed Athene, holding the precious aegis which is ageless and immortal: a hundred tassels of pure gold hang fluttering from it, tight-woven each of them, and each the worth of a hundred oxen."
The modern concept of doing something "under someone's aegis" means doing something under the protection of a powerful, knowledgeable, or benevolent source. The word aegis is identified with protection by a strong force with its roots in Greek mythology and adopted by the Romans; there are parallels in Norse mythology and in Egyptian mythology as well, where the Greek word aegis is applied by extension.

Aegis is to the masses what Side A is to the yuppies. And because of sheer numbers, it’s safe to presume that Aegis is reaching a far wider market than any other band in the country today.
The Aegis band consists of five girls and a guy whom the girls tease has already become one of the girls. Of course, they’re just kidding. It’s nothing more than a loving joke brought about by togetherness and a strong bond of friendship of more than 10 years and counting.
It’s hard to believe a musical group could last this long, traveling on foreign shores, sharing rooms, food, stories and lives altogether. But that’s the truth. Aegis is like family, much more than what a college fraternity or sorority can offer. It’s more than just an extension of their families strewn in different parts of the country. Aegis members represent the three major islands of the Philippines.
Juliet and Mercy Sunot, the lead vocalists, come all the way from Cagayan de Oro. The bassist Rowena “Weng” Pinpin is from Pampanga. Keyboardist Stella is from Misamis Occidental while drummer Vilma Goloviogo’s a Manileña. Only boy in the group, Rey Abenoja hails from Leyte.
To the members, having joined Aegis is the best thing that ever happened to them. Sure, they had been singing with other groups before, but it was only when they got together as Aegis that they felt this strong unseen link that has been seeing them through all these years.

Aegis is to the masses what Side A is to the yuppies. And because of sheer numbers, it’s safe to presume that Aegis is reaching a far wider market than any other band in the country today.
The Aegis band consists of five girls and a guy whom the girls tease has already become one of the girls. Of course, they’re just kidding. It’s nothing more than a loving joke brought about by togetherness and a strong bond of friendship of more than 10 years and counting.
It’s hard to believe a musical group could last this long, traveling on foreign shores, sharing rooms, food, stories and lives altogether. But that’s the truth. Aegis is like family, much more than what a college fraternity or sorority can offer. It’s more than just an extension of their families strewn in different parts of the country. Aegis members represent the three major islands of the Philippines.
Juliet and Mercy Sunot, the lead vocalists, come all the way from Cagayan de Oro. The bassist Rowena “Weng” Pinpin is from Pampanga. Keyboardist Stella is from Misamis Occidental while drummer Vilma Goloviogo’s a Manileña. Only boy in the group, Rey Abenoja hails from Leyte.
To the members, having joined Aegis is the best thing that ever happened to them. Sure, they had been singing with other groups before, but it was only when they got together as Aegis that they felt this strong unseen link that has been seeing them through all these years.
