1924 (MCMXXIV) was a leap year starting on Tuesday (dominical letter FE) of the Gregorian calendar and a leap year starting on Monday (dominical letter GF) of the Julian calendar, the 1924th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 924th year of the 2nd millennium, the 24th year of the 20th century, and the 5th year of the 1920s decade. Note that the Julian day for 1924 is 13 calendar days difference, which continued to be used from 1582 until the complete conversion of the Gregorian calendar was entirely done in 1929.
Joseph Frank "Buster" Keaton (October 4, 1895 – February 1, 1966) was an American actor, director, producer, writer, and stunt performer. He was best known for his silent films, in which his trademark was physical comedy with a consistently stoic, deadpan expression, earning him the nickname "The Great Stone Face". Keaton was recognized as the seventh-greatest film director by Entertainment Weekly. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Keaton the 21st greatest male star of Classic Hollywood Cinema. Critic Roger Ebert wrote of Keaton's "extraordinary period from 1920 to 1929, [when] he worked without interruption on a series of films that make him, arguably, the greatest actor-director in the history of the movies". His career declined afterward with a dispiriting loss of his artistic independence when he was hired by MGM, which resulted in a crippling alcoholism that ruined his family life. He recovered in the 1940s, remarried, and revived his career to a degree as an honored comic performer for the rest of his life, earning an Academy Honorary Award in 1959.

I do not own rights to this video and do not intend to infringe upon them for personal gain. I am posting this series for educational purposes only. This is a PBS/BBC documentary series produced in the 90's that I believe should be available to the public but unfortunately it is not as of the posting of this video. This series was originally transmitted for free on public airwaves funded by tax dollars/pounds and I believe it is fair it remains available. All credits for music and content are provided in the ending credits.

Whenever the"greatest Olympian" tag gets thrown around,Nurmi will get my vote.At the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris he ran a remarkable seven times in six days and won the lot! This included the 1500 and 5000 metres finals within a couple of hours of each other and the 10K cross country run in a 45oC heatwave which caused over half the field to drop out.Five golds really should have been enough, but Nurmi was apparently angry the Finnish authorities wouldn't let him defend tie 10000m title he'd won in Antwerp four years earlier.Peeved,he went home and knocked half a minute off of the 10K WR ,adding it to the 1500,2000,3000 and 5000 metres(as well as the mile),world records he already held.Greatest? I reckon so .
