St John of God Murdoch tries to revive $130,000 in lost staff parking fees

Hospitals are all about bringing things back to life, but this is one resuscitation beyond even the greatest medical team.

When St John of God Hospital in Murdoch announced it was trying to recoup parking fees from staff following an internal software error, we thought they were just playing doctors and nurses.

St John hospital staff have been asked to pay for lost parking fees because of a hospital system error.

But it turns out the planned revival, first revealed by the Melville Times, is not a training drill.

SJOG Murdoch chief executive John Fogarty said 1500 staff had been undercharged since they were made to pay for parking from August 2014, representing a $500,000 loss in parking revenue, the hospital claims.

Mr Fogarty justified the extraordinary move by saying the hospital was looking to recoup lost fees for the past six months only, or $130,000, rather than the entire two-year period its systems weren't working, and from its own staff, rather than whoever is to blame for the IT oversight.

Let's hope such oversights don't extend to the operating table.

Mr Fogarty has been contacted for comment.
