Sitdown, Sit Down or sit-down may refer to the following:
"You Can" is a 1981 single by Madleen Kane and produced by Giorgio Moroder. The song was written by Yolanda Yvette Adams, Donald Ray Atkins and Marcus Ecby. Along with the track, "Fire in My Heart", "You Can" was Kane's most successful single on the dance charts, spending three weeks at number one. The single was her only Hot 100 chart entry, peaking at #77.
"You Can't Sit Down" is a song best known in two versions: the 1961 Philip Upchurch Combo original instrumental, and a vocal cover version by the Dovells that reached number three on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in 1963. It is based, at least in part, on the gospel song "Sit Down Servant".
The song was set to two Disney cartoons in D-TV, "The Hockey Champ" and "Hockey Homicide". The Philadelphia 76ers used a modified version of the song with team-specific lyrics for the franchise's marketing campaign during the 1991–92 season.
In 1962 it appeared as a cover on Booker T. and the MG's first album, Green Onions. Also the Bar Kays and Hound Dog Taylor have recorded it (on albums Soul Finger and Natural Boogie). In 1964 the Kingsmen released a version on their LPThe Kingsmen In Person.
The song references "South Street", which is the same good-time area the Orlons sang about in their 1963 song South Street. The Orlons and the Dovells were both from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Dovells were an American music group, formed at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1957, under the name 'The Brooktones'. The members were Arnie Silver, Len Borisoff, Jerry Gross (alias Summers), Mike Freda and Jim Mealey (alias Danny Brooks). Their first single "No, No, No" was a local hit for The Brooktones. Gross left the group in 1959 to form the group The Gems with Mark Stevens, Mike Freda, Warren Purdy, and Roland Scarinci. The remaining Brooktones signed to Parkway Records in 1960 and added Jerry Sirlen and William Shunkwiler to the group, while changing the band's name to The Dovells. While rehearsing Out In The Cold Again, which turned out to be the B side of Bristol Stomp, Len called Jerry and asked for help with the Harmonies. After 2 days of trying, Len asked Jerry to be part of the group and replace 2 of the guys. Sirlen and Shunkwiler were replaced by Gross and Freda. Mark went on to start his own group Tony & the Raindrops--(Our Love is Over) a local hit, and the later joined The Dovells in the 60s. Warren Purdy went to work for the Boeing Corp., Roland Scarinci enlisted in The Marine Corps then went on to work for AT&T. The Dovells at that point (1961) were - Barry, Gross, Silver, Mealey, & Freda, which went on to record many hit records, starting with the Bristol Stomp. Mealey left the group in '62 for personal reasons, but still did some recordings with them..

Hey pretty baby! (you can't sit down)
A don't you hear the drummer thumpin' (you can't sit down)
You gotta shake it like a crazy (you can't sit down)
Because the band is sayin' something (you can't sit down)
And everybody is a jumpin'(you can't sit down)
You gotta slop, bop, flip flop, hip hop
Never stop
(You can't sit down, you can't sit down)
You gotta move, move, move, a round and round
(You can't sit down, you can't sit down)
You gotta fly, fly, fly, way off the ground
You're puttin down, a crazy, shout
No, no, you can't sit down, no, no, you can't sit down
When you're on South Street (you can't sit down)
And the band is really bootin' (you can't sit down)
You hear the hip beat with the back beat (you can't sit down)
And you see the gang a groovin' (you can't sit down)
You gotta get your bottom movin' (you can't sit down)
You gotta make it, break it, shake it all around
You can't sit down, you can't sit down
You gotta move, move, move, a round and round
(You can't sit down, you can't sit down)
You gotta fly, fly, fly, way off the ground
You're puttin down, a crazy, shout
No, no, you can't sit down, no, no, you can't sit down
Get in there honey!
[Instrumental]
You can't sit down, you can't sit down, you can't sit down
You can't sit down, you can't sit down, you can't sit down
You can't sit down, you can't sit down, you movin' em down,
A crazy shout, you can't sit down
A, yea, yea, yea, hey pretty baby
You know you really dance so fine now
You're really shakin' like a crazy
A don't you down lead the line now
We're gonna do it one more time now
You got to make it, break it, shake it, all around
(You can't sit down, you can't sit down)
You gotta move, move, move, a round and round
(You can't sit down, you can't sit down)
You gotta fly, fly, fly, way off the ground
You're puttin down, a crazy, shout
