The Newcastle Knights are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. They compete in Australasia's premier rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership. Playing in red and blue, the Knights joined the top tier competition in 1988, 79 years after the previous Newcastle based team, the Newcastle Rebels had departed the Sydney competition with the formation of a separate league competition based in the Newcastle region.
The club has won two premierships over its history (1997 and 2001) and produced such players as Paul Harragon, Robbie O'Davis, Danny Buderus and rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns. The team's home ground is Hunter Stadium.
A Newcastle rugby league team had been assembled from players in the Newcastle Rugby League to compete in various competitions for most of the 20th century. The Newcastle Knights entered the NSWRL competition in 1988 with Allan McMahon as coach. Newcastle had previously been invited to field a team in the NSWRL competition for the 1982 season but declined, worried it would weaken the area's local league competition. The Canberra Raiders were admitted to the 1982 competition in their place.

Here are the best tries from the Newcastle Knights in 2016. SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheSportingLife The Newcastle Knights finished bottom of the ladder in 16th place this year. They scored 52 tries in total and I have included 39 of their best. Yes, I realise that it is 75% of their tries this year, but being a Knights fan, I may be a little more biased. Hey, it wasn’t a very good year for us Knights fans, so to see all the good tries we scored, can help ease the pain a little. :P I have tried to find the best quality video for all the tries but sometimes I couldn’t find a quality version so some sections of the video may not be the best quality. 90% of the video is high quality. I am uploading all the teams in descending order from where they finished on the table, so ...

1997 - The Newcastle Knights secure their 1st premiership with a 22-16 win over the Manly Sea Eagles. The Game will be remembered for the final few seconds, when Andrew Johns ran down a short blind side and passed inside for Darren Albert to score the match winning try. Check out my 2001 video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isTdpbxxSSI Property of Nine's Wide World of Sport.
2001 - The Newcastle Knights secure their 2nd premiership with a 30-24 win over the Parramatta Eels. Newcastle's forwards dominated the Eels in the first half and paved the way for the backs in the second. Despite Parramatta's late comeback, Newcastle's determination and defensive effort saw them leave Stadium Australia with the trophy. The 2001 NRL grand final was the conclusive and premiership-deciding game of the 2001 NRL season. It was contested by the Newcastle Knights (who had finished the regular season in 3rd place), and the Parramatta Eels (who had finished the regular season in 1st place), after both sides eliminated the rest of the top eight during the finals. The attendance of 90,414 was the third highest ever seen at a rugby league match in Australia. Domestically, live free-to-air television coverage was provided by Nine's Wide World of Sports. The match was also broadcast live in the United States by Fox Sports World.[1] Newcastle Knights won, with their captain Andrew Johns receiving the Clive Churchill Medal for man-of-the-match.[2] The Knights were first to score with a try to Bill Peden in the 3rd minu...
Williamston, NC- Riverside Wins Season Opener over Bertie ....Final Score 22-6
The long-running duel between opposing front rowers Mark Carroll and Paul Harragon erupted once again in the 2nd minute when Carroll reacted to a Harragon shot on Geoff Toovey. Newcastle applied pressure early when they regained possession inside Manly's 20m and shortly after that Andrew Johns took a penalty attempt, but Manly's defence and luck stood firm and the score stayed nil-all. Manly scored first after rookie hooker Anthony Colella won a scrum against the feed. John Hopoate exploited a weakness in Newcastle's right side defence and got between Darren Albert and Mark Hughes to score. Nevin's sideline conversion gave the Sea Eagles a 6-0 lead. In 13th minute Manly suffered a blow when Toovey was steamrolled. He left the field concussed for Cliff Lyons to come on. Johns went within i...
