The Bourne Supremacy is the second Jason Bourne novel written by Robert Ludlum, first published in 1986. It is the sequel to Ludlum's bestseller The Bourne Identity (1980) and precedes Ludlum's final Bourne novel, The Bourne Ultimatum (1990).
The Bourne Supremacy gave its name to the second Bourne film starring Matt Damon The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, which, however, has a completely different plot from the novel.
In the first book, The Bourne Identity, the title character suffers amnesia. Over the course of the book, he regains his memory with the help of a Canadian economist, Marie, and eventually finds out that his real name was Webb. He had previously been an operative of the Central Intelligence Agency in an elite project in Southeast Asia and Vietnam codenamed Medusa. Following the American forces' withdrawal from Vietnam, he joined Project Treadstone 71, where he was used as bait for the infamous European assassin Carlos the Jackal, and assumed the identity of a mock assassin, Jason Bourne. “Bourne" took credit for various kills in China and the rest of Asia, acting as a rival to the Jackal, in order to draw him out of hiding.
The Bourne Supremacy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the official soundtrack release to The Bourne Supremacy. It features selections of music by composer John Powell and a new version of Moby's "Extreme Ways", which was again featured over the film's closing credits as for The Bourne Identity, though the track was omitted from that film's soundtrack album release. The song "Intothinair" by Mocean Worker is featured during the Moscow club scene, but does not appear on the film's official soundtrack.
The Bourne Supremacy is a 2004 American-German action spy thriller film starring Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne character. Though it takes the name of the second Bourne novel, its plot is entirely different. The film was directed by Paul Greengrass from a screenplay by Tony Gilroy. Universal Pictures released the film to theaters in the United States on July 23, 2004. It is the second in the Bourne film series. It is preceded by The Bourne Identity (2002) and followed by The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and The Bourne Legacy (2012).
The Bourne Supremacy continues the story of Jason Bourne, a former CIA assassin suffering from psychogenic amnesia. Bourne is portrayed by Matt Damon. The film focuses on his attempt to learn more of his past as he is once more enveloped in a conspiracy involving the CIA and Operation Treadstone. The film also stars Brian Cox as Ward Abbott, Joan Allen as Pamela Landy and Julia Stiles as Nicky Parsons.
Two years after the events of the first film, Jason Bourne and Marie Kreutz are now in Goa, India. Still experiencing flashbacks about his former life as a CIA assassin, he records them in a notebook.
