What an awesome day in Vietnam!! I flew from Hong Kong to Da Nang, Vietnam on Dragonair which is owned by Cathay Pacific and had an incredible adventure. The day was filled with new friends, great food and surreal sights.
I LOVE VIETNAM and so happy to return; I spent two months there in 2010 and it was one of the highlights of my 5.5+ year trip so far.

Wondering what to do in Da Nang? There are a lot of attractions but here's my top 5 on things to do in the city center. These activities can easily be combined in one day!
We start with some history and culture in the Museum of Cham sculptures in the city center.
Not far from the museum u will find Han Market, one of the main local markets in Da Nang.
Of course Da Nang is also famous for it's local food. Grab some street food or try some of the many local specialties (Pho, Mi Quang, Banh Xeo etc.) to fill your stomach.
In the evening Han Riverside is the place to be. It's the center of Da Nang by night. To finish the day, why not go to the SkyBar 36 and enjoy a cold drink with an amazing view surrounding you!

In this episode we have another installment close to Da Nang. We will take a short day trip to check out Hoi An, Vietnam. If we like what we see we will return soon to check it out in more detail. We are having a great time in a different SE Asian country than Thailand and we are really starting to appreciate Vietnam and its people. In this episode we take a motorbike from Da Nang to Hoi An to see if it is worth coming back to soon to get a real feel for life as a RIPper there. In part 12 I will give you some averaged costs to expect in Da Nang and Hoi An and we will continue to cover what it is like to live in Vietnam and in this episode we have some info and sights and sounds again from Da Nang. We will continue to contemplate the question, “what would life be like living in Vietnam as a retiree?” We will continue to see what the upsides and downsides are to living in a Communist country like Vietnam.
Hội An is a city on Vietnam’s central coast known for its well-preserved Ancient Town, cut through with canals. The former port city’s melting-pot history is reflected in its architecture, a mix of eras and styles from wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colorful French colonial buildings, ornate Vietnamese tube houses and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge with its pagoda.

Da Nang is my favorite modern city in Vietnam and it's a prime representation of how beautiful and how Vietnam is heading in the right direction. Da Nang is clean, the streets are wide, and the skyline is developing really quickly.
The first thing Ngoc and I did was visit Asia Park because of the Sun Wheel. This ferris wheel is the main attraction to a very scenic area where many residents and locals hang out. Entrance fees are only a few dollars and there are a lot of activities, especially for younger children. Unfortunately, when we were there, the wheel did not work. Afterwards we took a cab to Tran Huong Dao St. along the Han River. We started off at the Han River Bridge and made our way down towards the Dragon Bridge. This is where I met two local Da Nang natives and spoke with them for a bit. The Dragon Bridge spits out fire and water on Sundays at 9 o'clock and we made sure we didn't miss it. Da Nang’s stunning coastline is over 90km in total length. The city boasts numerous pristine beautiful beaches with bleached-white sand and crystal-clear blue water.
My Khe Beach is recognised as one of the most ideal beach of Da Nang City, international tourists came here for convalescence and relaxation. My Khe beach is 900m long and is popular with both locals and visitors. Once listed in the US Forbes Magazine as one of the 6 most beautiful beaches in the world, it is an idyllic beach with smooth sand and a gentle slope. The beach has hotels, restaurants, drinks stalls, and other services which create favourable conditions for visitors to relax. There are also a number of high-end resorts nearby should you be in need of pampering, with most offering a rich choice of treatments at their spas and a range of dining options. In addition, seafood specialities including prawns, crabs, fish, and cuttlefish are sold in many of the small shops at reasonable prices. My Khe Beach is now seeing the development of other activities for visitors, such as fishing, water-skiing, diving and yachting.

Đà Nẵng (
listen) is one of the major port cities in Vietnam (in addition to Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong) and the biggest city on the Central Vietnam; the city is situated on the coast of the Eastern Sea, at the opening end of the Hàn River. Đà Nẵng is the commercial and educational center of Central Vietnam, with a well-sheltered, easily accessible port; its location on the path of National Route 1A and the North–South Railway makes it a hub for transportation. It is located within 100 km of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Imperial City of Huế, the Old Town of Hội An, and the Mỹ Sơn ruins. The city was previously known as Cửa Hàn during early Đại Việt settlement, and as Tourane (or Turon) during French colonial rule. It is the third biggest economic center in Vietnam (after Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi).
Before 1997, the city was part of Quảng Nam-Đà Nẵng Province. On 1 January 1997, Đà Nẵng was separated from Quảng Nam Province to become one of five independent (centrally controlled) municipalities in Vietnam. Đà Nẵng is listed as a first class city, and has a higher urbanization ratio than any of Vietnam's other provinces or centrally governed cities. In terms of urban population, Đà Nẵng is the fifth largest city in Vietnam.

Wondering what to do in Da Nang? There are a lot of attractions but here's my top 5 on things to do in the city center. These activities can easily be combined in one day!
We start with some history and culture in the Museum of Cham sculptures in the city center.
Not far from the museum u will find Han Market, one of the main local markets in Da Nang.
Of course Da Nang is also famous for it's local food. Grab some street food or try some of the many local specialties (Pho, Mi Quang, Banh Xeo etc.) to fill your stomach.
In the evening Han Riverside is the place to be. It's the center of Da Nang by night. To finish the day, why not go to the SkyBar 36 and enjoy a cold drink with an amazing view surrounding you!

Da Nang is my favorite modern city in Vietnam and it's a prime representation of how beautiful and how Vietnam is heading in the right direction. Da Nang is clean, the streets are wide, and the skyline is developing really quickly.
The first thing Ngoc and I did was visit Asia Park because of the Sun Wheel. This ferris wheel is the main attraction to a very scenic area where many residents and locals hang out. Entrance fees are only a few dollars and there are a lot of activities, especially for younger children. Unfortunately, when we were there, the wheel did not work. Afterwards we took a cab to Tran Huong Dao St. along the Han River. We started off at the Han River Bridge and made our way down towards the Dragon Bridge. This is where I met two local Da Nang natives and spoke with them for a bit. The Dragon Bridge spits out fire and water on Sundays at 9 o'clock and we made sure we didn't miss it. Traveling to Da Nang, Vietnam - Train, Food, Night View
When I spent two months in Vietnam my boyfriend surprised me with a 2 week trip across this beautiful country. In order to have the full experience we decided to travel from North to South by train, and then take a plane back to Ha Noi. Our first destination was Da Nang City, where we visited Andy. We didn't spend much time in the city itself. First night just walking next to Hàn River. On the first day we visited Ba Na Hills and on the second one we checked out the beautiful Hoi An. Vietnamese food tour of Hoi An and Da Nang
Christine and her family travel from Da Nang to Hoi An on motorbike, and Lena takes them to eat the famous foods of this historical town, including cao lau (the legendary noodles of Hoi An), mi quang, banh bao vac, and a sandwich shop highly regarded by Anthony Bourdain. When I spent two months in Vietnam my boyfriend surprised me with a 2 week trip across this beautiful country. In order to have the full experience we decided to travel from North to South by train, and then take a plane back to Ha Noi.
Our first destination was Da Nang City, where we visited Andy. We didn't spend much time in the city itself. First night just walking next to Hàn River. On the first day we visited Ba Na Hills and on the second one we checked out the beautiful Hoi An.
I planed this episode to contain all Da Nang related videos but when editing I realized it is way too much :) So here I just include the time and meals we spent in Da Nang and up next I will talk to you more in depth about Ba Na Hills and Hoi An.
I really hope you enjoy this video, it might be a bit too long but after all these are my memories and I really wanted to include all the beautiful scenes we've scene on our train journey :)
If you decide to visit Da Nang yourself I definitely recommend you going by train. If you have a friend to entertain you it is pretty fun and you can not see the beautiful coast and landscape from the airplane - and the food they serve is just as delicious as some street food store. ;)

It is a country of beautiful landscapes, amicable people and a great cultural heritage.Hanoi is North Vietnam’s lively capital city located in the north of the country and set amid the delta plains of the Red River. The Chua Mot Cot Pagoda is one of the oldest religious buildings in Hanoi and is a temple built upon a single column in the centre of a small lake. On the shores of the Song Huong, Giang in the heart of Vietnam is a former royal city and today’s provincial capital of Hué. Nine mighty canon are the symbolic guards of the historic citadel. Beyond its defences are five hundred hectares that contain the Imperial City and also the Forbidden Purple City. Da Nang’s Cham Museum contains a fine collection of Cham sculpture from the surrounding provinces. It boasts more than three hundred exhibits divided into ten rooms, with sandstone deities, monsters and heavenly dancers. With nearly six million inhabitants, Saigon is also known as Ho Chi Minh City. The Jade Pagoda, the Temple of the Jade Emperor, highlights the country’s religious faith. The interior features Daoism in all its splendour and it was here that it all began, at the junction of the Ben Nghe Canal on the slowly flowing Saigon River. Vietnam is a colourful land that still contains ancient tribes and exotic landscapes – a fascinating paradise located on the exotic edge of South East Asia!

Early in the morning we left Phong Nha to go to Dong Hoi's train station where we got on a Vietnamese train headed towards Da Nang. Surprisingly, the train (SE3) is clean and very comfortable. The sleeper cabins were also very affordable. In Da Nang we ate at Banh Xeo Ba Duong which had some delicious Central region banh xeo. Then we came over to Nina's dad's cousins house where she met them for the first time and also where they fed up local and American products. Later in the night we ate some fresh coconut jelly - rau cau dua and then walked along the stunning but smelly Da Nang river side where I discussed how wonderful a modern Vietnam can be. Not only will this help the people locally economically, but it will allow the rest of the world to have a different vision of Vietnam, the Vietnam of today and not the Vietnam of the rural past.

I start the day at Ba Na Hills in Da Nang, a French castle in the mountains. It was beautiful and very unique for Vietnam. The weather up there was perfect and the cable car was breath taking. It was very expensive though at 600,000 Dong a person. The arcade was free for the most part.
Then we went to Hoi An right away and randomly came upon the best thing I ever ate in Hoi An, the best banh canh ever at 580 Cua Dai St. Opens 3PM to 7PM only. (the earlier soup lady is not her)
