The Edge is a brand-new building located at Amsterdam’s Zuid-as area designed by PLP Architecture and developed by OVG. In order to enthuse investors we were asked to create a film in which this architectural masterpiece is presented. We chose to focus on the five most important pillars. First of all The Edge has the highest sustainability label of all buildings in continental Europe. Furthermore we wanted to reflect its location, as the Zuid-as area is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most significant business districts. Flexibility, cutting-edge design and, perhaps the most important, users are the final pillars that complete the story. SPINNING STEEL. How much am I these cities whizzing through me? As they cling their little strings of light to connect the dots in my itching soul, like fireflies dancing their erratic dance to the rhythm of soft clattering steel as I swoop in with them. How they have weaved their delicate webs into me so as to enclose me in the hold of the cold stone that paves the marrow of my bones so that when life rides right through them – they rattle with a soft hum and echo in me gently. To wander these streets in me, and to wonder just how much they have laced themselves into this little being to build little cities of light on the hills of my smile. I’ll be myself a bit just to ride them a while. I’ll ride them a little faster and let them blur into my sweet timelessness. This little race of the quietness of wheels humming soothing tunes of nameless streets with their blank signs spelling only welcome for me to race right through their shimmer, pushing myself to live faster, live louder, live a little more alive and put a little more of that living into how I ride through all of this. I am not quite so weakened at heart that I should become satisfied with taking life lying down in surrender my grip, but I take life by the bars and rush into it leaning forward, confident, these little cities whizzing through me in blips and fireflies crowding the cavities in me to make me a hive of dancing lights that glitter in the trails that I leave when I race right through them. Day 5 start: Guillaumes (793m) trailhead: Bouchanières (1418m) finish: St-Sauveur-sur-Tinée (500m) riding distance: 39.22 km on-bike height gain: 977m on-bike height drop: 1954m no. of timed "special stages": 4 highlight: long, winding, physical descent from Roure Day five regardless of what old timers at the Trans -Provence may think turned out to be the favourite by some degree with riders so far. The combination of technical trails and the majority of climbing on roads gave the riders a little relief from the standard bike a hike and fire road climbs to the top. First trail of the day Special stage fifteen definitely drops a long way but also has some hard pedalling sections combined with technical moves . To quote Chris Porter from Mojo " You need the trials skills of Danny Macaskill and the lungs of Indurain" We couldn't decide if that was a complement or not! A long road climb with opportunities for coffee and cake at the top (which most seemed to take ) led the riders in to Special Stage Sixteen a woodland epic that finally saw them fire through arable fields before reaching the feed station. Another long road col gradually winded the riders to special stage three - a fast dusty trail that cuts along the edge of ravine and out and along a old road that leads to them through tiny villages and finally into a deep ravine which demands the only carry of the day! Finally the Village of Roure is reached and another of the classic Trans- Provence trails. zig zagging across open hill side with a enormous sense of exposure on either your left or right depending on which way the trail was taking you held together with perfect switch back corners - faster and less technical than some of the other stages - it definitely has a bit more flow and speed to it. A final uplift of the day saw competitors reach there camp for the night and much needed rest for day six , the only day that compares to day two in terms of duration.
