Jack Frost requests trade from Collingwood, wants to join Brisbane Lions on three-year deal

VERSATILE defender Jack Frost has requested a trade from Collingwood and wants to join Brisbane.

Frost, 24, will join the Lions on a three-year deal.

His manager Ben Williams confirmed on Trade Radio the athletic key defender, who is out of contract, wants to head north as he looks for more senior opportunities.

“‘Frosty’ has decided that’s he’s going to be joining the Brisbane Lions on a three-year deal, should a trade be done,” Williams said.

“Players want to play footy and they want to play senior footy.

“He was out of the team and didn’t look like he was getting back in the team so obviously had some interest from clubs and just decided that Brisbane is the best place for him.”

Frost fell behind Magpies Nathan Brown, Ben Reid and Jonathon Marsh in Nathan Buckley’s key defensive stocks at the end of the season and played just 10 games in 2016, taking his career tally to 54.

He finished the season in the VFL before suffering an ankle injury that ruled him out of the VFL Magpies’ preliminary final loss.

The 195cm former rookie will slot straight into the Lions’ defence following the retirement of veteran Daniel Merrett.

“Collingwood were very transparent all along, they wanted to keep chatting regarding Jack and they never made a formal offer. They said that they may during the trade period and see what happens during that period,” Williams said.

“But Jack wanted something a bit more solid and when a club makes a serious offer for you, they obviously have an intention to play you.”

Frost’s pending departure is another hit to Collingwood’s key tall stocks, with Brown still unsigned and has attracted interest from North Melbourne as a restricted free agent.

Brown is currently weighing up a contract offer to remain with the Magpies.

Travis Cloke has also requested a trade and is expected to join the Western Bulldogs.

Frost had a breakout season in 2015 when he played 20 games and showed he’s capable of playing on the big key forwards, with his closing speed a strength.
