Blue is the colour between violet and green on the optical spectrum of visible light. Human eyes perceive blue when observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometres. Blues with a higher frequency and thus a shorter wavelength gradually look more violet, while those with a lower frequency and a longer wavelength gradually appear more green. Pure blue, in the middle, has a wavelength of 470 nanometres. In painting and traditional colour theory, blue is one of the three primary colours of pigments, along with red and yellow, which can be mixed to form a wide gamut of colours. Red and blue mixed together form violet, blue and yellow together form green. Blue is also a primary colour in the RGB colour model, used to create all the colours on the screen of a television or computer monitor.
The modern English word blue comes from Middle English bleu or blewe, from the Old French bleu, a word of Germanic origin, related to the Old High German word blao. The clear sky and the deep sea appear blue because of an optical effect known as Rayleigh scattering. When sunlight passes through the atmosphere, the blue wavelengths are scattered more widely by the oxygen and nitrogen molecules, and more blue comes to our eyes. Rayleigh scattering also explains blue eyes; there is no blue pigment in blue eyes. Distant objects appear more blue because of another optical effect called atmospheric perspective.
Blue Winter is a double album by American jazz saxophonist Fred Anderson, which was recorded live at Vermont's Johnson State College in 2004 and released on Eremite, a label founded by producer Michael Ehlers. The set features four long improvisations by a trio with bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake. While the three have worked together before, in quartet with Kidd Jordan on the album 2 Days in April, this is their first trio recording.<ref name"Eremite">Blue Winter at Eremite Records</ref>
The All About Jazz by Kurt Gottschalk states "Blue Winter is pure Anderson —with the best rhythm section in the land to be sure— and an indispensable selection of energy improv."
In an article for the Chicago Tribune, Howard Reich ranked the album as number 2 jazz record of 2005 and notes that "Anderson rarely has been more faithfully recorded, the often leathery quality of his midrange, the acidity of his high notes and the barreling quality of his nethermost pitches captured more vividly than ever before."
Winter is the coldest season of the year in polar and temperate climates, between autumn and spring. Winter is caused by the axis of the Earth in that hemisphere being oriented away from the Sun. Different cultures define different dates as the start of winter, and some use a definition based on weather. When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. In many regions, winter is associated with snow and freezing temperatures. The moment of winter solstice is when the sun's elevation with respect to the North or South Pole is at its most negative value (that is, the sun is at its farthest below the horizon as measured from the pole), meaning this day will have the shortest day and the longest night. The earliest sunset and latest sunrise dates outside the polar regions differ from the date of the winter solstice, however, and these depend on latitude, due to the variation in the solar day throughout the year caused by the Earth's elliptical orbit (see earliest and latest sunrise and sunset).
Robert Norman "Bob" Ross (October 29, 1942 – July 4, 1995) was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was best known as the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, and also aired in Canada, Latin America and Europe.
Ross was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, and raised in Orlando, Florida. He had a half-brother, Jim, whom he mentioned in passing on his show. While working as a carpenter with his father, Ross lost part of his left index finger, but it did not affect the way he held his palette while painting.
Ross had two sons, Bob and Steven, with his first wife, Lynda Brown. Steven occasionally appeared on The Joy of Painting and became a Ross-certified instructor. The last episode of Season 1 was a question-and-answer forum in which Steven read a series of general "how-to" questions sent in by viewers during the season, and Bob answered them one at a time, technique by technique, until he had completed an entire painting.
Connie Francis (born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero, December 12, 1938) is an American pop singer and the top-charting female vocalist of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Although her chart success waned in the second half of the 1960s, Francis remained a top concert draw. Despite several severe interruptions in her career, she is still active as a recording and performing artist.
Francis was born in the Italian Down Neck, or Ironbound, neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey, the first child of George Franconero, Sr., and Ida Franconero (née Ferrari-di Vito), spending her first years in a Brooklyn neighborhood on Utica Avenue/St. Marks Avenue before the family moved to New Jersey.
Growing up in an Italian-Jewish neighborhood, Francis became fluent in Yiddish, which would lead her to later record songs in Yiddish and Hebrew.
In her autobiography Who's Sorry Now?, published in 1984, Francis recalls that she was encouraged by her father to appear regularly at talent contests, pageants, and other neighborhood festivities from the age of four as a singer and accordion player.
Season 21 of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross features the following wonderful painting instructions: Valley View, Tranquil Dawn, Royal Majesty, Serenity, Cabin at Trails End, Mountain Rhapsody, Wilderness Cabin, By the Sea, Indian Summer, Blue Winter, Desert Glow, Lone Mountain, and Florida’s Glory. winter is blue living is gone some are just sleeping in spring they'll go on our love is dead nothing but crying love will not find even one more new morning why must i stay here rain comes i'm sitting here watching love moving away into yesterday winter is blue everything's leaving fires are now burning and life has reason i am alone waiting for nothing if my heart freezes i won't feel the breaking why must i stay here rain comes i'm sitting here watching love moving away into yesterday (© vashti bunyan 1966)
South African artist from Cape Town. She appeared on the Duane Eddy, John D Loudermilk and John Gary tours of South Africa in the 1960s. She won SARI's in 1964 and 1965 for Best Female Country and Western Singer. In 1966 she went to the USA where she made several TV appearances. This song was released on the LP "Style and country" in 1965 (best guess, based on comments on the LP's rear cover). It's a cover of a song by Connie Francis from 1964.

Drag Marble Winter Side #Frenchmanicure : Today's nail art video is a blue drag marble side French nail art using needle, dotting tool and nail brush. First of all apply base coat to protect your natural nails. Fix French manicure tape over your nail diagonally and paint the tip light blue. Put small blue blobs over the wet tip and with a needle make the marble pattern. Remove the tape slowly then by a small dotting tool paint white points. At the edge of the French tip paint silver glitter line. Apply top coat to protect your manicure from peeling and to keep it shiny and glossy. Written by Ben Raleigh and John Gluck. Arranged by Alan Lorber Released in February 1964, this was Connie’s third seasonal offering on 45; following “Baby’s First Christmas” in 1961 and “I’m Gonna Be Warm This Winter” the following year. Always availing herself of material from the very best songwriters, Connie here picks a song from Ben Raleigh and John Gluck. The latter co-wrote “Mecca” for Gene Pitney and “It’s My Party” for Lesley Gore, while Ben Raleigh penned “Tell Laura I Love Her” (with Jeff Barry) for Ray Peterson and the sublime “That’s How Heartaches Are Made” (with Bob Halley) for Baby Washington. “Blue Winter” charted at #24 for Connie. The song was also recorded as “Blue Summer” by both George Chakiris and Anita Bryant.

Wasting time, just hanging around
Skimming stones...
I'm casting an eye to see the mystery
Of where the ripples flow...
Magpies circle memories that I'd swept to the side
The beauty of the stratosphere cries, turn on the lights
And illuminate my...
Blue winter
So I drop to the ground, I'm border-lining on letting go
I'm so sick of the sight, and as I see my reflection
My empty complexion I know
I am a kingdom overthrown
I am my everything postponed
Just want somewhere to call my home...
Blue winter
Blue winter
These lives that we've led, they are a pale reflection
Of every confession you've made
Some things will never wash away
I'm just a heart in a cage
I wanna make a connection
Find something to settle my pain
Nowhere to run, to run away
Blue winter
Blue winter
I'm just a heart in a cage
I wanna make a connection
Find something to settle my pain
