Lying in state
Lying in state is the tradition in which the body of a respected dead person is placed in an official state building, either in view or in a coffin, to allow the public at large to pay their respects. It traditionally takes place in the principal government building of a country or city. While the practice differs among countries, a viewing in a location other than the principal government building is referred to as lying in repose.
South Africa
Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president to lie in state in South Africa. The event took place at the Union Buildings the same site where he was inaugurated as the President of South Africa on May 10, 1994. The body of Mandela was lying in State for three days starting on Wednesday the 11th of December 2013 and ending on Friday the 13th of December 2013. The body was viewed by thousands of South Africans before it was airlifted to Qunu in the Eastern Cape where Mandela was laid to rest on the 15th of December 2013.

Pakatan confident of voter support in state elections, says Rafizi
PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has expressed confidence that Pakatan Harapan is still getting positive support from Malay voters, youths in particular. Rafizi who was also Economy Minister, said in his winding-up speech at the PKR Special National Congress 2023 on Saturday (March 18), adding that there was indeed a shift in the number of votes to Perikatan Nasional in GE15 but it was only in certain areas and not the whole country. PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has expressed confidence that Pakatan Harapan is still getting positive support from Malay voters, youths in particular.
Rafizi who was also Economy Minister, said in his winding-up speech at the PKR Special National Congress 2023 on Saturday (March 18), adding that there was indeed a shift in the number of votes to Perikatan Nasional in GE15 but it was only in certain areas and not the whole country.
As such, Rafizi brushed off the Opposition’s claims that it was confident of capturing Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang from Pakatan in the upcoming state elections.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was among those paying their respects to the body of Benedict at St. Peter's Basilica in the first of three days of public viewing. READ MORE: https://str.sg/wyKt
Benedict died on Saturday at the age of 95.
Benedict's funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan 5 in St. Peter's Square, in front of the basilica. The ceremony will start at 9.30am (0830 GMT) and will be presided over by Pope Francis.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said that following the wishes of Benedict, the funeral would be simple, solemn and sober.

Lying in state
Lying in state is the tradition in which the body of a respected dead person is placed in an official state building, either in view or in a coffin, to allow the public at large to pay their respects. It traditionally takes place in the principal government building of a country or city. While the practice differs among countries, a viewing in a location other than the principal government building is referred to as lying in repose.
South Africa
Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president to lie in state in South Africa. The event took place at the Union Buildings the same site where he was inaugurated as the President of South Africa on May 10, 1994. The body of Mandela was lying in State for three days starting on Wednesday the 11th of December 2013 and ending on Friday the 13th of December 2013. The body was viewed by thousands of South Africans before it was airlifted to Qunu in the Eastern Cape where Mandela was laid to rest on the 15th of December 2013.
