An Inari shrine (稲荷神社, Inari Jinja) is a shinto shrine to worship the god Inari. There are many Inari shrines in Japan. The deity is worshiped also in some Buddhist temples.
Inari is a popular deity with shrines and Buddhist temples located throughout most of Japan. According to a 2007 report from Kokugakuin University, 2,970 shrines are dedicated to Inari. This number includes only Shinto shrines that are registered as religious corporations and part of the Association of Shinto Shrines; if small roadside or field shrines, shrines kept in a home or corporate office, and Buddhist temples were included, the number might increase by an order of magnitude.
The entrance to an Inari shrine is usually marked by one or more vermilion torii and some statues of kitsune, which are often adorned with red yodarekake (votive bibs) by worshippers out of respect. This red color has come to be identified with Inari, because of the prevalence of its use among Inari shrines and their torii. The main shrine is the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Fushimi, Kyoto, Japan, where the paths up the shrine hill are marked in this fashion.

The Fushimi-Inari-Taisha shrine in Kyoto, Japan is most famous for its long rows of vermilion Torii gates, nearly 5000 gates in all. Various temple structures are in front including the famous Romon Gate, but the main attraction is that vast network of Torii gates which have made Inari one of the most popular destinations in town. Whenever you see the torii gate you know that this is not a Buddhist temple but instead it's a Shinto shrine. And this is the main shrine of this particular Shinto sect that's dedicated to the gods of rice and sake. Throughout Japan there are 40,000 other Inari shrines but this is the principle one. The Inari Shrine is a wonderful Shinto experience. You walk through all of these different gateways along a path that winds through the forest. This is the largest ...
The Fushimi Inari Taisha, is a complex with several Shinto Shrines, located about 2,5 km southeast of the JR Kyoto Station, with a total area of 870,000 square meters. Its most famous feature is the Senbon-Torii or the Thousand Torii Gates standing in the path to the Oku-sha. More than 24 ceremonies are held in this Shrine around the year. Within the boundaries of the Shrine, you'll find mysterious trails going up the Inari Mountain, two ponds and a general ambience that somehow takes you away from reality into a travel back in time, to a land where the spirits and creatures of Japanese tales and folklore wander and hide behind the countless Torii gates and Byakko Fox Statues. In this video we see the main path to the Shrine Complex, then people participating in the Nagoshi no Oharae cer...

One of my favorite places in Japan. The shrine is always open and its free!!!! Its a must see in my opinion!!! HOW TO GET TO FUSHIMI INARI TAISYA! Fushimi Inari Shrine is located just outside JR Inari Station, the second station from Kyoto Station along the JR Nara Line (5 minutes, 140 yen one way from Kyoto Station, not served by rapid trains). The shrine can also be reached in a short walk from Fushimi Inari Station along the Keihan Main Line.
