180 million Indian workers participated in a General Strike on Friday 2 September2016. Workers raised demands of increases to the minimum wage, an end to privatisation and an end to trade union repression. This marked the biggest industrial strike in the world, and is the most recent in a line of massive general strikes in India (see here, here and here). The strike effectively shut down major industries, and cost the capitalists an estimated 180 billion INR (3.5 billion AUD). The strike was only possible through the collaborative and collective efforts of 10 different labour centres in India. The struggle continues.
