Cardiff University (Welsh: Prifysgol Caerdydd) is a public research university located in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. The University is composed of three colleges: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Biomedical and Life Sciences; and Physical Sciences and Engineering.
Founded in 1883 as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire, it became one of the founding colleges of the University of Wales in 1893, and in 1997 received (but held in abeyance) its own degree-awarding powers. It adapted the public name of Cardiff University in 1999, and in 2005 this became its legal name as it left the University of Wales to become an independent University awarding its own degrees. It is the third oldest university institution in Wales and is the only Welsh member of the Russell Group of leading British research universities. The university is consistently recognised as providing high quality research-based university education and was ranked 122nd in the world by the QS World University Rankings 2015–16, as well as achieving the highest student satisfaction rating in the 2013 National Student Survey for universities in Wales.
Cardiff (i/ˈkɑːrdɪf/; Welsh: Caerdydd [kairˈdiːð, kaˑɨrˈdɨːð]) is the capital and largest city in Wales and the tenth largest city in the United Kingdom. The city is the country's chief commercial centre, the base for most national cultural and sporting institutions, the Welsh national media, and the seat of the National Assembly for Wales. The unitary authority area's mid-2011 population was estimated to be 346,100, while the population of the Larger Urban Zone was estimated at 861,400 in 2009. Cardiff is part of the Cardiff and south Wales valleys metropolitan area of about 1,100,000 people. Cardiff is a significant tourist centre and the most popular visitor destination in Wales with 18.3 million visitors in 2010. In 2011, Cardiff was ranked sixth in the world in National Geographic's alternative tourist destinations.
The city of Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan (and later South Glamorgan). Cardiff is part of the Eurocities network of the largest European cities. The Cardiff Urban Area covers a slightly larger area outside the county boundary, and includes the towns of Dinas Powys and Penarth. A small town until the early 19th century, its prominence as a major port for the transport of coal following the arrival of industry in the region contributed to its rise as a major city.

Pimps and hoes party... unacceptable? "A party with a pimps and hoes dress code encouraging students to dress as prostitutes has sparked a petition to ban the "misogynistic" theme from future events held by the infamous Carnage brand. The night out, organised by events company Varsity Leisure Group, took place in Cardiff on Sunday night, and is marketed primarily for students." Now the party has raised questions about sexism in university parties. Watch the video and find out more with John Iadarola and Lisa Ferguson on TYT University! What do you think about these sorts of parties? Is it ok to glorify pimps and hoes and prostitution in general? And what about Lisa's point that these parties almost always make women out to be sluts, but allow the men to dress however they want? Let us kno...

Take a tour of Cardiff City Hall in Cardiff, United Kingdom -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Cardiff City Hall is a cornerstone of civic engagement in the United Kingdom. The magisterial clock tower looms above a sprawling plaza, lovely gardens, and charming streets. Inside the four-faced tower are three bells that continue to chime the hour for the city's people. The fifth structure to hold this honor, the current hall was erected in the early 1900's. This building exemplifies the popular Edwardian architectural style of the time. From any angle, Cardiff City Hall reflects the austerity of what it represents.
The production of bio-diesel from the transesterification of plant-derived triglycerides with methanol has been extensively commercialised. Impure glycerol is obtained as a by-product at roughly one tenth the mass of bio-diesel. Using this crude glycerol is important in improving the viability of the overall process. Cardiff and Greenergy has found that crude glycerol can be reacted with water over very simple basic or redox oxide catalysts to produce methanol in high yields, together with other useful chemicals, in a one-step low-pressure process. Furthermore, the molecules containing at least two hydroxyl groups can be converted into methanol. Cardiff University and Greenergy International Ltd are IChemE Global Awards 2016 finalists for the Energy Award. “Being nominated for this Awar...
