Here’s Trump’s Executive Order. The gist of it is that it tries to strip social media platforms of protection under Section 230(c) when they “edit” content with labels like Twitter did to Trump’s tweets today.

This order will do more to solidify power by big tech than anything. Pushing for things that will not happen with dopey proclamations like this will stifle real reform and good legislation to rein in big tech. What’s worse than grifters?Dumb grifters:

100,000 Americans have died from a disease that cruelly separates the sick and dying from those they love most. Nurses, doctors, and first responders have stayed by their side, providing loving care and compassion throughout their darkest hour.

Trump can't lawfully repeal Section 230 by EO. Trump can't change Twitter speech policies by EO. The combination of Section 230 and the First Amendment dramatically limit his ability to regulate online speech. And we should all be thankful for those constraints.

Per our Civic Integrity policy (), the tweets yesterday may mislead people into thinking they don’t need to register to get a ballot (only registered voters receive ballots). We’re updating the link on ’s tweet to make this more clear.

This does not make us an “arbiter of truth.” Our intention is to connect the dots of conflicting statements and show the information in dispute so people can judge for themselves. More transparency from us is critical so folks can clearly see the why behind our actions.

Fact check: there is someone ultimately accountable for our actions as a company, and that’s me. Please leave our employees out of this. We’ll continue to point out incorrect or disputed information about elections globally. And we will admit to and own any mistakes we make.

Trump is melting down on his favorite platform. Fact-checking him is the least — the very least — ⁦Twitter⁩ can do about it. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Hey dickhead, the Russians used social media to a great effect, but you've done nothing on that front. When Trump cut off your balls in public . . . did he force you to lick his boots every day? For fuck's sake. Sad.

Senator, serious question: Do you ever lie awake at night and truly regret selling your soul to a man who you yourself called a “pathological liar,” “utterly immoral,” and a “narcissist like this country has never seen?”

Also worth remembering that as a general practice, the FCC has repeatedly gone out of its way to avoid regulating websites and internet companies. The FCC’s GOP leadership made it a point to avoid “regulating the internet” when it rolled back its own net neutrality rules.
