1940 (MCMXL) was a leap year starting on Monday (dominical letter GF) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1940th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 940th year of the 2nd millennium, the 40th year of the 20th century, and the 1st year of the 1940s decade.
Below, the events of World War II have the "WWII" prefix.
The Submarines song from the album Honeysuckle weeks. Lyrics to 1940 : Somethings wrong when you regret Things that haven't happened yet But it's a glorious day when morning comes Without the feeling of alarm So rise, and shine Nows the time to be alive To stay awake with me a while, and smile You couldn't sleep for the awful fright That kept you up in bed last But curious shape shift in the dark, They vanish with the sunrise spark So rise, and shine Nows the time to be alive To stay awake with me a while, and smile So rise, and shine Nows the time to be alive To stay awake with me a while So rise, and shine Nows the time to be alive To stay awake with me a while, and smile Somethings wrong. . . .
Here are the 1940's. I was hoping to get this done yesterday, but saving a HD video takes forever. Like the other videos of this series, I used Dave's Music Data Base as a source. Songlist: 1. White Christmas - Bing Crosby (1942) 2. Star Dust - Artie Shaw (1941) 3. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry (1949) 4. Paper Doll - The Mills Brothers (1943) 5. Body and Soul - Coleman Hawkins (1940) 6. Near You - Francis Craig and His Orchestra (1947) 7. The Christmas Song - Nat "King" Cole (1946) 8. This series, broadcast in Britain in 2000, covers the fateful year of 1940 when British independence hung by a thread. From the evacuation of Dunkirk to victory in the Battle of Britain, the series contains some superb archive footage and - most of all - some wonderful interviews with people who were there, both on the fighting front, at home, and even in government. The film quality in some places is a little fuzzy, probably because it was uploaded from an old VHS, but it's worth sticking with in my opinion. Uploaded for educational purposes only. Be sure to watch Part 2, and 'The Other Side of Dunkirk' also available on my channel. Comments are restricted but welcome if they engage with the subject matter.

Part 1 of 2 So we decided to head back to the town where the old general store was located; because last time I'd spotted an old abandoned hotel. Well we parked up nearby and went and tried the door...it was open! In we went, chattering away, until we heard others chattering as well. We realised we weren't alone – surveying the old reception we quickly discerned that something was going to happen to the hotel – either renovation....or worse, modernisation or demolition. I had the gut feeling we wouldn't get permission to film, and so made the decision to sneak around and document it under their noses. We had several close calls, and at one point I looked over a stairwell and saw two women chatting in the closed courtyard; one looked up directly into my face...I quickly hunched down, lol – ...
Something's wrong when you regret
Things that haven't happened yet
But it's a glorious day when morning comes
Without that feeling of alarm
So rise and shine
Now's the time to be alive
To stay awake and be with me a while
And smile
You couldn't sleep for the awful fright
That kept you up in bed last night
While curious shapes shift in the dark
They vanish with the sunlight spark
So rise and shine
Now's the time to be alive
To stay awake with me a while
And smile
So rise and shine
Now's the time to be alive
To stay awake with me a while
So rise and shine
Now's the time to be alive
To stay awake with me a while
