Baserange

What began as a summer store in No Order Market late last year has now become a permanent space for sustainability-minded French–Danish label Baserange. They already had quite a following overseas and have steadily captured attention locally, not least because their underwear range manages to be completely practical and comfortable while remaining glamorous enough to make you feel like a film noir heroine underneath whatever porridge-stained top you've thrown on.

Baserange don’t just do reg-grundies though. Their clothing range consists of mostly natural fibres, produced in considered ways in small family factories (if you check out their website there’s plenty of information on their processes). The collection that has just arrived in store is technically Autumn–Winter (due to it being a Europe-based label) however Baserange’s items could be considered very much trans-seasonal due to the nature of the fabrics. Because the No Order Market space is now permanent, this is the first time the Melbourne store are able to stock a full range of styles.

For this collection, Baserange have taken inspiration from the clinical aesthetics of hospitals and institutions and added a twist of humanity and warmth. There’s a cool colour palette of grey, beige and silvery-blue, which contrasts with the tactility of textiles such as yak wool, raw cotton and soft silk. Structured pants and tops reminiscent of uniforms are at odds with soft ruching in silver pants and skirts. And the beloved undergarments have an athletic feel, with layering and cutouts. It’s worth mentioning that the lookbook (featuring local women) was shot in Turkey, a place close to Baserange’s heart as many of their woven garments are produced there.
