The political and legal status of Taiwan (or the Taiwan Issue, Mainland Issue or Taiwan Strait Issue as referred to by the Republic of China) hinges on whether Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu should remain effectively independent as territory of the Republic of China (ROC); become unified with the territories now governed by the People's Republic of China (PRC); formally declare independence and become the Republic of Taiwan; as well as whether the existence and legal status as a state ("country") of both the ROC and the PRC is legitimate as a matter of international law, and how much diplomatic recognition either entity receives from the international community.
Currently, Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and some other minor islands effectively make up the jurisdiction of the state with the official name of Republic of China but widely known as Taiwan. The ROC, which took control of Taiwan (including Penghu and other nearby islands) in 1945, ruled mainland China and claimed sovereignty over Outer Mongolia (now Mongolia) and Tannu Uriankhai (part of which is present day Tuva, Russia) before losing the Chinese Civil War and relocating its government to Taipei, Taiwan in December 1949. On September 1951, Japan officially renounced its right to Taiwan in the Treaty of San Francisco without explicitly stating the sovereignty status of Taiwan, and hence some supporters of Taiwanese independence argue that the sovereignty of Taiwan is still held by the Allies.
Cross-Strait relations (simplified Chinese: 海峡两岸关系; traditional Chinese: 海峽兩岸關係; pinyin: Hǎixiá liǎng'àn guānxì) are the relations between mainland China and Taiwan, which are separated by the Taiwan Strait in the west Pacific Ocean, and in particular between their respective governments:
In 1949, with the Chinese Civil War turning decisively in the Communists' (CPC) favour, the ROC government led by the Kuomintang (KMT) retreated to Taipei, in Taiwan, while the CPC proclaimed the PRC government in Beijing.
Since then, the relations between China and Taiwan have been characterized by limited contact, tensions, and instability. In the early years, military conflicts continued, while diplomatically both governments competed to be the "legitimate government of China". More recently, questions around the political and legal status of Taiwan have focused on the alternative prospects of political unification with China or full Taiwanese independence. The People's Republic remains hostile to any formal declaration of independence and maintains its claim over Taiwan. At the same time, non-governmental and semi-governmental exchanges between the two sides have been increasing. From 2008, negotiations began to restore the "three links" (transportation, commerce, and communications) between the two sides, cut off since 1949. Party-to-party talks between the CPC and the KMT have resumed and semi-official negotiations through organizations representing the interests of their respective governments are being scheduled.

Taiwan (i/ˌtaɪˈwɑːn/; Chinese: 臺灣 or 台灣; see below), officially the Republic of China (ROC; Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a sovereign state in East Asia. The Republic of China, originally based in mainland China, now governs the island of Taiwan, which constitutes more than 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands, following its loss of the mainland China territory in 1949 in the Chinese Civil War. This remaining area is also constitutionally called the "Free area of the Republic of China" which is not ruled by the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
Neighboring states include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west (mainland China), Japan to the east and northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population density of 649 people per km2 in October 2015.Taipei is the seat of the central government, and together with the surrounding cities of New Taipei and Keelung forms the largest metropolitan area on the island.

Genres: Short,To call a city 'the best food city in the world' is kind if ridiculous. After all, food is subjective. But I've traveled a lot over the past 30 years, and I can honestly say that Taipei has been my favorite food city. It has a diversity that is somewhat rare in Asia. The Chinese food there is extremely good, no matter what part of China it's from. Taiwanese food is most often a take on an already delicious dish. We feasted for 7 days and loved every bite. Natural Sound In a celebration of one of it's most ancient cultures, the Taiwanese capital, Taipei, played host to a feast of exotic music, food and handicrafts on Saturday. Tens of thousands of people flocked to the city to join in the Hakka festival - an annual festival to honour the country's third biggest tribe. The festival, now in it's third year, has become the biggest of it's kind in the world. At the sound of the third gong, it was Taipei's mayor, Chen Shui-bien, who this year had the honour of officially opening the annual Hakka festival. Now one of the biggest festivals of it's kind in the world, the celebration honours the Hakka people - one of Taipei's olders and largest tribes. Despite the scorching heat, people came in their droves. Tens of thousands packed Taipe...

Because of Taiwan's ideal terrain and climate, the island's tea is famous around the world. Appreciation of the art of tea represents the height of the aesthetic lifestyle in Taiwan. In recent years, Eastern-style contemporary tea houses that fuse zen concepts, music, tea, and snacks, have grown in popularity. Tea drinking has been transformed into its own refined form of culture. Bringing the flavor of a variety of teas into cooking is a specialty of local tea culture.

Flying the Eva Air upper deck of a Boeing 747-400. Turns out the whole upper cabin is Economy for this airline. I didn't care for it as much as the lower cabin, the extra space was nice but the air felt more stuffy. I've flown EVA numerous times to Asia since they're usually one of the cheaper airlines during my searches. Their mileage program doesn't offer too much for the amount of miles I've flown, but the airline itself has always been friendly, prompt and convenient on every flight. The crew treated me the same whether I'm flying business or economy so I'll continue to use this again carrier as long as their prices meet my budget. Thanks for watching.
A red-eye flight experience on China Airlines' beautiful 777-300ER service from New York to Taipei. Taiwanese airlines might truly be the new 5 star airlines as they rapidly overhaul their image with a seriously amazing long haul product. The interior is full of wood décor, the IFE is brilliantly smooth and beautifully designed. IFE incorporates a lot of "tiles" similar to Windows 8 which works well for a touch screen interface. The service and meals were excellent. Flight attendants were always smiling and saying "thank you." When I asked for a toothbrush, the FA ended up bringing me another amenity kit in addition to the toothbrush. A simple but well stocked amenity kit was provided. This is a huge contrast to the premium economy experience with China Southern, which suffers from horribl...
http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Our flight from Taipei to Narita Airport (Tokyo) was on ANA Airlines who was using the EVA Business Class Lounge today. A big perk when 1Ks fly Economy is the ability to use whatever Star Alliance Airline Lounge you are flying on that day. Although Economy Class on ANA, it was into the very luxurious EVA Lounge. So many different foods to choose from, lots of space and the usual Asian Business Lounge perks; showers, etc., etc. Why should we be surprised at that? A perfect ending to a fabulous vacation in Taiwan. I'll repeat: Don't wait as long as we did to visit Taiwan, filled with attractions, luxury - or not, clean and delicious food.
EVA Air Flight BR 75 departing from Taipei, Taiwan to Bangkok, Thailand. Follow me on the short 3 hour flight onboard the heavy Boeing 777-300ER. You'll see everything from: Boarding, takeoff, inflight food all the way to landing at the modern & mighty Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport. Make your own opinions from what you see and compare it to what you're use to in air travel. For me, I found the service typical for Eva Air which is clean, quick and convenient with courteous staff onboard their aircraft. The food was ok, but after just coming off another Eva flight where we're fed twice... I really wasn't in the mood for more airline food. Summary: Will continue to use this airline for our travel needs to Asia when the price is right.
I used 35,000 miles to upgrade from Elite to Royal Laurel Class from Taipei to Los Angeles. I love the flat bed seat the most. It helped me to relax and enjoy the flight much more (who doesn't?) than economy/elite class. A round trip ticket from LAX to Asia on Royal Laurel will cost at least $5000. Enjoy China Airlines' beautiful Dynasty business class lounge. There are several lounges at Taipei Taoyuan. The business class lounge in terminal 2 and 1 are both quipped with showers, however Terminal 1 has the brand new remodeled lounge that feels like a high end hotel lobby/restaurant and is designed with the same theme as their 777. It is becoming harder and harder to find 747 routes. China Airlines has refitted their fleet to 3 class 747s for this route. Unlike the 777 seats, the 747 seat are of a much older generation, but the generous leg room is enough for this 3 hour flight.

Taiwan''s exports are expected to shrink this year, leading many to forecast economic growth of around 2 percent. While the government says poor economic data is mainly due to international conditions, some believe a more serious industrial transformation is taking place. On Sunday, October 25th, 2015 after visiting the Longshan Temple and the Tourist Night Market we drove around looking for a place where to have lunch, and a place where to park the car. As it was not possible find a single parking spot, we drove away from the centre to a Recreation Centre where David had a membership card. Very beautiful installation in gym, swimming pool and sauna and internet connection (high speed). There we had a Chinese lunch, drink a Taiwanese beer and a big cup of coffee. We learned then that Taipei City has a free Wi-Fi network “Taipei – free” where you can login after getting a user name and password.
Driving from Taipei to new Taipei City, Taiwan, sped up 1700%... 35 minute trip down to 1:30 seconds.
Embarrassing footage at the end, enjoy!

Come discover Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s busiest harbor. Located in southwestern Taiwan, this city boasts scenic seaside spots, magnificent mountain views, and a captivating culture. Begin your journey on the island of Cijin, and visit Tianhou Temple, where Matzu, the protector of fishermen and sailors, is honored. Next, head further inland and hike the trails at Monkey Mountain; have a spot of tea with a view of the city as monkeys swing overhead from the treetops. Other popular attractions include Love River, which offers scenic pathways that run through the city, and Lotus Lake, where the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas are said to give visitors good luck. At the lake, honor the Goddess of Mercy and God of War, and marvel at the massive statue of the Mysterious Warrior, Xuan Wu. After visiting Lotu...

Kaohsiung is a city worth checking out in South Taiwan. To get there from Taipei, just take the rapid rails and in a few hours, you'll be there. In Kaohsiung, I met up with local friends Maggie and Wennie who showed me around Kaohsiung's harbor area and Cijin Island. But first, before the ferry, we stopped by a shaved ice place that serves shaved ice by gigantic bowls. It was delicious and super sweet- perfect for a hot day in Taiwan. Next, we boarded a quick ferry to Cijin Island, where seafood restaurants line both sides. This was full of tourists, but rightfully so because the street food was also delicious. We ate some roasted fresh squid- the best I've ever had. Then we stopped and checked out some weird ginger sauce tomato dip dish that can only be found regionally. Overall, it was ...

Kaohsiung Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial & Kaohsiung Food This time, a whole new bunch of friends are here! So it's my job to bring them around Kaohsiung and show them the best views around! First, stop we head over to Lingya District to try some of the best Sesame Noodles in town. If you have not tried sesame noodles before, you are missing out! We then proceed to rent our car in Kaohsiung for the first time before heading towards the #1 of 262 best things to do in Kaohsiung (according to TripAdvisor), which is the Fo Guang Shan Monastery. Okay, I have no idea why it's the #1 thing to do, there's nothing much to do here. But the scenery here is spectacular! To end the day off, I brought the boys to one of the best mutton places in town. Of course, if you don't try this, you're missi...

Super Typhoon Meranti is making its way towards Taiwan, with forecasters warning that the worst of the storm is set to pass through the island over the course of tomorrow and Thursday morning. The eastern coastal counties of Hualien and Taitung are expected to be the areas most seriously affected, but authorities suggested that the storm might not make landfall. The clear weather that northern Taiwan enjoyed today was the calm before the storm, in all likelihood, with Super Typhoon Meranti now bearing down on the island. The Central Weather Bureau has already issued land and sea warnings ahead of the approaching storm as its outer weather systems start to affect parts of the Taiwanese mainland.Lo Ya-yinCentral Weather Bureau ForecasterIt is proceeding on a stable northwesterly course and i...

Travel video about destination Taiwan. Taiwan, the Beautiful Island or, ‘Ilha Formosa’: a land of gods, spirits and temples - an island at the end of a rainbow! This south east Asian island is separated from the Chinese mainland by the Formosa Strait that at its narrowest point is a hundred and thirty kilometres wide. Taipei is a pulsating metropolis in the north of the island in which emperors’ treasures and chaotic traffic highlight both industrial strength and a Chinese way of life. In the old town district of Wan Hua is the city’s oldest and most precious Buddhist temple of Lungshan Szu, the Dragon Mountain Temple. The Sun Yi Sen Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the centenary of the founder of the Republic of China. His efforts brought about the abdication of the last emperor and...

All the gangsters around know my whole crew (nigga WHAT?!)
We hold it down like we 'sposed to
Nigga you can front if you want, we be poppin them thangs
(YEAH!) Every hood we go through
All the gangsters around know my whole crew (nigga WHAT?!)
We hold it down like we 'sposed to (ha ha)
Nigga you can front if you want, we be poppin them thangs
[Verse One: 50 Cent]
After the VMA's my baby momma cussed my ass out
I kicked her ass, we back friends like Puffy and Steve Stoute
Cut the grass around my crib so I could see these snakes
You see 'em back in the hood, it's cause I see they're fake
A preacher's son about the paper like I'm Creflo Dollar
I pop you punk niggaz like I pop my collar
I'm confused, I like Megan, Monica and Mya
Missy's freaky and Brandy's shot up
Now take a look at how my lifestyle changed up
I'm on now, God damnit, I done came up (what?)
Now you can find me with the finest hoes
Choosin which whip to drive by what match my clothes
I got a fetish for the stones, I'm heavy on the ice man
If I ain't got a pistol on me, sure I got a knife fam
Get out of line and I'm lightin yo' ass up
Semi-automatic's the way I tighten yo' ass up - what?
[Chorus]
[Verse Two: Lloyd Banks]
Slow down punk nigga, don't exceed your speed
Cause I will put G's on your fitted like the Negro League
I got connects, I don't need no weed
I been in L.A. for a year now, so I don't see no seeds
After I'm done, you clap in a crew
Hell yeah I fuck fans, guess what, your favorite rapper does too
(YEA!) In a minute I'ma have the jeweler makin my rims spin
My crew run wild like the Jamaicans in Kingston
Nuttin but bling bling in your face boy; that's why my neck shine
like one of the shirts that Puffy and Mase wore (AHH)
I done found a nympho as soon as I pop a broad
She had my balls, head first like a soccer star
You can only stand next to the man if you proper
That take care of birds like an animal doctor
I been out and buzzin, niggaz just slept on me
So I'm out for revenge like one of Bin Laden cousins
[Chorus]
[Verse Three: Young Buck]
Read the paper, look at the news, we on the front page
Yeah we in the Bahamas with AK's on the stage
The ice in the Jacob watch'll make a broke nigga take somethin
So I gotta keep the fo'-fifth with no safety button
G-Unit get that money, I know some artists is starvin
but play the game like they rich, to me the shit funny
I know you see me comin; cause on the front of the Maybach
it say PAYBACK for those that hated on me
I hate when niggaz claim they bangin or gang
You ain't a Crip like Snoop, you ain't no Blood like Game
See I been havin beef, I got my own bulletproof vest
Most of my enemies dead, I got about two left
Until my last breath, I'm sendin niggaz bulletholes
Innocent bystanders get hit tryin to be heroes
You know how we roll, everywhere that we go
It's fo-fo's, calicos, and desert eagles
