Vince Taylor

Vince Taylor (14 July 1939 – 28 August 1991), born Brian Maurice Holden, was a British rock and roll singer. As the frontman for the Playboys, Taylor was successful primarily in France and the Continent during the late 1950s and early 1960s, afterwards falling into obscurity amidst personal problems and drug abuse.

Early life

Taylor spent his early life in Isleworth, Middlesex. When he was seven, the Holdens emigrated to America and settled in New Jersey where his father found employment. Around 1955, his sister, Sheila, married Joe Barbera, of Hanna-Barbera. As a result of the marriage, the family moved to California, where Taylor attended Hollywood High School. As a teenager, Taylor took flying lessons and obtained a pilot's licence.

Music career

At age 18, impressed by the music of Gene Vincent and Elvis Presley, Taylor began to sing, mostly at amateur gigs. Barbera, his brother-in-law, became his manager. When Barbera went to London on business he asked Taylor to join him. In London, Taylor went to the 2i's Coffee Bar on Old Compton Street in Soho, where Tommy Steele was playing. There he met drummer Tony Meehan (later of the Shadows) and bass player Tex Makins (born Anthony Paul Makins, 3 July 1940, Wembley, Middlesex). They formed a band called the Playboys. Whilst looking at a packet of Pall Mall cigarettes he noticed the phrase, 'In hoc signo vinces'. He decided on the new stage name of Vince Taylor.

Commander in Chief (TV series)

Commander in Chief is an American drama television series that focused on the fictional administration and family of Mackenzie Allen (portrayed by Geena Davis), the first female President of the United States, who ascends to the post from the Vice Presidency after the death of the sitting President from a sudden cerebral aneurysm.

The series began broadcasting on ABC on Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, although most countries outside North America began screening the series in mid-2006.

The show was #1 on Tuesday nights until FOX's American Idol started in January. The show was also the #1 new show of the season until CBS' Criminal Minds surpassed it. Its major competitor in the 9:00 p.m. timeslot was FOX's House, which aired after American Idol.

The series was created by American director Rod Lurie, director of the films The Contender and Deterrence, and may have been inspired by The West Wing, a popular political drama on rival NBC.

The network replaced Lurie with Steven Bochco as show runner, but after he failed to increase ratings he was also replaced with Dee Johnson while further declining ratings brought about a hiatus, a timeslot change and ultimately cancellation.

Vince Taylor (basketball)

Vincent Caldwell Taylor (September 11, 1960) is a retired American professional basketball player who competed in the NBA for one season and is currently an assistant coach at Texas Tech University. He played college basketball at Duke, and in the NBA played for the New York Knicks. Taylor also played briefly in the Continental Basketball Association for the Wisconsin Flyers. Taylor had a successful basketball career in Europe, playing a total 13 seasons on European teams in Italy (1984–86), France (1986–92), and Belgium (1992–97).

Vince Taylor (bodybuilder)

Vince Taylor (born August 25, 1956) is an American IFBB professional bodybuilder.

Background

Taylor won 22 IFBB titles during his career, a Guinness world record until it was surpassed by eight time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman with 26 wins.

Taylor holds the record for the most Masters Olympia titles with five (1996, 1997, 1999-2001)

A bodybuilding icon and legend, he recently made a comeback to the sport at the age of 50 by competing in the 2006 Australian Pro, where he placed 3rd. He then went on to the 2006 Mr. Olympia, placing 11th.

He took 10th place at the 2007 Arnold Classic in a very competitive field. He signed on to compete at the Australian Pro in 2007. Taylor also appeared in several training videotapes, such as "Vince Taylor Workout - "Getting Pumped"" and "Beyond the Masters."

He resides in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Adam (2009 film)

Adam is an 2009 American romantic drama film written and directed by Max Mayer, starring Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne. The film follows the relationship between a young man named Adam (Dancy) with Asperger syndrome, and Beth (Byrne). Mayer was inspired to write the film's script when he heard a radio interview with a man who had Asperger's.

Filming took place in New York in December 2005. The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize, and was released in the United States on July 29, 2009. The release date in Canada and the UK was 7 August 2009 in Australia, and everywhere else after Labor Day.

Plot

Adam Raki (Dancy) is a young man, who has Asperger syndrome, living alone in Manhattan after his father's recent death. He has a friend, Harlan Keyes (Frankie Faison), an old army friend of his father's, who is always there for him. Because of his condition, Adam has difficulty communicating with others and likes to escape into his love of space exploration. His fixation on detail, repetitive behaviors, and mind-blindness cost him his job at a toy manufacturing company and nearly get him arrested after he is mistaken for a pedophile. He does not want to leave the apartment he and his father had been living in, but the loss of his job leaves him with an uncertain future, including the problem of continuing to pay the mortgage. Although he has Asperger syndrome and likes to stick to his own routine, avoiding socializing with others, Adam is lonely and wishes things could be different.
