After a long hiatus, we were finally able to experience Cathay Pacific' First Class offering once again. This is a trip review of our flight from Hong Kong to Paris CDG on flight CX 261.
This is definitely one of the best flights I've flown. The service was impeccable. The crew anticipated all my needs and I didn't even have to ask for anything during the flight. It was all offered and given to me. The seat is also the most comfortable seat I've sat on in an airplane. The food is also delicious. They offer both Western and Chinese inspired meals during the flight which were beautifully plated. Also, did I mention the offer caviar and Krug champagne? It's because of the above that I give this flight a 10 out of 10. Sadly the cabin lighting was consistently too dim to capture some good video footage, but that's not necessarily a bad thing since this was a night flight.

A beautiful 10am departure and an even better landing with views of Shenzhen, Macau and Victoria Harbor. Check-in was odd in that the first class line was occupied by group travelers instead and I was directed to the business check-in line after about 10 minutes. The lounge was British Airways Galleries Lounge. For the morning flight, there were only cereals and fruits. Alcohol was available too but oddly no hot food was offered. Overall, not an impressive lounge.
Onboard waiting for me was the excellent Cathay Pacific seat in a 1-1-1 configuration and an extremely lovely crew. The crew took excellent care of me, at one point they apologized for not having a first class cup for coffee and giving me the smaller business class cup instead.
This crew encouraged me to take pictures and try all the menu had to offer. Each time I woke up to use the bathroom, they were super proactive and would come by and ask me if I needed anything to eat or drink. They were always professional and approachable. Everything was done with a smile. Food wise, I didn't enjoy the main course as it was simply smothered in sauce. All the other courses were very delicious and beautifully presented. For some reason, I never had luck with the main course on Cathay. Another strange thing with Cathay is their rather spartan amenity kit. It is functional but rather empty compared to JAL's stuffed first class amenity kit. The female version has an extra bottle of toner but otherwise it is the same as the male kit.
Overall an excellent flight onboard with average ground service.

Cathay Pacific Emergency Landing - CX884 Hong Kong - Los Angeles
The events in this video occurred during my flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles and documents the emergency landing as it happens.
We were around half way into the flight when the captain announced we would have to make an emergency landing, it was at this point the crew began to give instructions on what we had to do. This included how to perform the brace position correctly and invited us removing the life jacket from under out seats and strapping it around us.
At one point a crew member comes over the PA and announces that we might have to make an emergency water ditch, meaning we could be forced to attempt a landing on the Pacific Ocean. Luckily this didn't happen and the pilot was abel to divert the plane to a Eareckson Air Station which is a remote military airbase located on Shemya, in the Alaskan Aleutian Islands.
At points during the emergency landing passengers can smell smoke throughout the plane making them think there could be a fire onboard the plane. From a press release later released by Cathay Pacific we found out that a cooling fan had failed in the control room below the cockpit and had caused several smoke detectors to be activated.
All footage filmed using an iPhone 5s and edited using Final Cut Pro.

After a long hiatus, we were finally able to experience Cathay Pacific' First Class offering once again. This is a trip review of our flight from Hong Kong to Paris CDG on flight CX 261.
This is definitely one of the best flights I've flown. The service was impeccable. The crew anticipated all my needs and I didn't even have to ask for anything during the flight. It was all offered and given to me. The seat is also the most comfortable seat I've sat on in an airplane. The food is also delicious. They offer both Western and Chinese inspired meals during the flight which were beautifully plated. Also, did I mention the offer caviar and Krug champagne? It's because of the above that I give this flight a 10 out of 10. Sadly the cabin lighting was consistently too dim to capture some good video footage, but that's not necessarily a bad thing since this was a night flight.

A beautiful 10am departure and an even better landing with views of Shenzhen, Macau and Victoria Harbor. Check-in was odd in that the first class line was occupied by group travelers instead and I was directed to the business check-in line after about 10 minutes. The lounge was British Airways Galleries Lounge. For the morning flight, there were only cereals and fruits. Alcohol was available too but oddly no hot food was offered. Overall, not an impressive lounge.
Onboard waiting for me was the excellent Cathay Pacific seat in a 1-1-1 configuration and an extremely lovely crew. The crew took excellent care of me, at one point they apologized for not having a first class cup for coffee and giving me the smaller business class cup instead.
This crew encouraged me to take pictures and try all the menu had to offer. Each time I woke up to use the bathroom, they were super proactive and would come by and ask me if I needed anything to eat or drink. They were always professional and approachable. Everything was done with a smile. Food wise, I didn't enjoy the main course as it was simply smothered in sauce. All the other courses were very delicious and beautifully presented. For some reason, I never had luck with the main course on Cathay. Another strange thing with Cathay is their rather spartan amenity kit. It is functional but rather empty compared to JAL's stuffed first class amenity kit. The female version has an extra bottle of toner but otherwise it is the same as the male kit.
Overall an excellent flight onboard with average ground service.

Cathay Pacific Emergency Landing - CX884 Hong Kong - Los Angeles
The events in this video occurred during my flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles and documents the emergency landing as it happens.
We were around half way into the flight when the captain announced we would have to make an emergency landing, it was at this point the crew began to give instructions on what we had to do. This included how to perform the brace position correctly and invited us removing the life jacket from under out seats and strapping it around us.
At one point a crew member comes over the PA and announces that we might have to make an emergency water ditch, meaning we could be forced to attempt a landing on the Pacific Ocean. Luckily this didn't happen and the pilot was abel to divert the plane to a Eareckson Air Station which is a remote military airbase located on Shemya, in the Alaskan Aleutian Islands.
At points during the emergency landing passengers can smell smoke throughout the plane making them think there could be a fire onboard the plane. From a press release later released by Cathay Pacific we found out that a cooling fan had failed in the control room below the cockpit and had caused several smoke detectors to be activated.
All footage filmed using an iPhone 5s and edited using Final Cut Pro.

Hi everybody, this is part two of my journey from Tokyo to Manila. Flight Review:
We departed Hong Kong on the 26th June 2016 at 16:00 and arrived around 18:00 in Taipei, Taiwan.
At first we didn't know if we were going to get the A350 because 2 days earlier, the flight was stopped in MNL due to a technical reason.
That day I had actually climbed a mountain near the airport in Hong Kong to film the landing back but alas, it was not to be on that day.
So I was getting a bit nervous thinking my flights over to asia were pointless, especially if the china airlines may change their schedule again.
That would be two A350 full flight video's missed, and flights hopping back and forth that were booked gone to the wind.
Luckily after check-in, i asked if it was that aircraft, they looked on the screen and it showed as that one. However it was hard to know if it was just a schedule rather than the actual real time thing.
So I waited on FR24 refreshing all the time as it was still in MNL but at 12pm it showed up as flying back to hong kong.
So i went off and had some food after filming some slow motion landings.
The flight was full today and there was a long queue at the gate, boarding was ok, everyone took their seats quickly.
I noticed that the IFE tail camera wasn't showing and i asked the crew if it will come on. They queried it and then said that this aircraft doesn't have the tail camera. They later clarified that cathay don't have it on this one like Finnair has.
The food was almost similar to the Taipei-Hong Kong Route but this time the lattice pastry was a Portuguese type.

Hi everybody, this is part two of my journey from Tokyo to Manila. This leg was operated by a Boeing B777-300ER, and I was very fortunate to be blessed with Cathay Pacific's Spirit of Hong Kong livery, affectionately known as the flying cucumber by the crew. In addition to the beautiful livery, I was also able to experience Cathay Pacific's latest economy class product which is undoubtably one of the best in the skies right now, making this 2 hour journey feel like nothing. Too add to the bucket full of goodies, this trip took place during the afternoon which left us with a jaw dropping view of the sunset over the Pacific Ocean which made me disappointed that I was traveling solo on this trip without special company ;) Oh well...
