Prithviraj Kapoor (3 November 1906 – 29 May 1972) was a pioneer of Indian theatre and of the Hindi film industry, who started his career as an actor, in the silent era of Hindi cinema, associated with IPTA as one of its founding members and who founded the Prithvi Theatres, a travelling theatre company based in Mumbai, in 1944.
He was also the patriarch of the Kapoor family of Hindi films, four generations of which family, beginning with him, have played active roles in the Hindi film industry. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1969 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1971 for his contributions towards Indian cinema.

Prithviraj Kapoor Family Tree Rare Images
The Kapoor family is one of the oldest families of the Hindi film industry. They have worked with films and theatre from generations. Prithviraj Kapoor, the first from the family to pursue acting, was born in 1901. His first lead role was for the film Cinema Girl in 1929. In 1944, he set up Prithvi Theatre. He was the first to use the concept of modern, professional urban theater. Prithviraj's sons Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor - all got into acting and were very successful actors. However, it is Raj Kapoor's descendants who have carried on the family legacy.

the editing is really amateur in this i know, i was still getting figuring out how to edit vids to a good standard. i made this for Raj Kapoor ji's death anniversary (2nd June).
I've already made a video for Raj ji so for his death anniversary I wanted to make a more personal video in which his parents and childhood memories were highlighted upon and so I included videos about Prithviraj Kapoor ji as he was not just Raj ji's father but he also was the one who started the Kapoor dynasty and he was a pioneer of Indian theatre & of the Hindi film industry.
The second video is in Faislabad, Pakistan where Prithviraj Kapoor was born.

As the title suggests, Kal Aaj Aur Kal talks about the changing times and the need to adapt to it. Ram Kapoor, a wealthy industrialist, calls his father Diwan Bahadur Kapoor to stay with him. Ram's son Rajesh who is good at heart, initially takes a liking to his grandfather but as the grandfather begins to impose his orthodox beliefs on the household, Rajesh rebels. As a last straw, Diwan Bahadur Kapoor, arranges for Rajesh's marriage with the daughter of an old confidante of his forcing Rajesh who is already in love with someone else to protest. Things come to such a passe that Ram Kapoor decides to go missing for a few days to provide his father and son adequate time to sort out their differences. Will this decision of Ram Kapoor have any effect on Diwan Bahadur and his grandson Rajesh?

Early life and education
Kapoor was born in Lyallpur on 3 November 1906. His paternal grandfather, Dewan Keshavmal, was a powerful influence during his childhood. Kapoor received his higher education at the Edwardes College in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and joined a two-year program in law to become a lawyer. It was here that his talents on stage first received expression.

Prithviraj Kapoor, the first from the family to pursue acting, was born in 1901. His first lead role was for the film Cinema Girl in 1929. In 1944, he set up Prithvi Theatre. He was the first to use the concept of modern, professional urban theater. Prithviraj's sons Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor - all got into acting and were very successful actors. However, it is Raj Kapoor's descendants who have carried on the family legacy.

the editing is really amateur in this i know, i was still getting figuring out how to edit vids to a good standard. i made this for Raj Kapoor ji's death anniversary (2nd June). I've already made a video for Raj ji so for his death anniversary I wanted to make a more personal video in which his parents and childhood memories were highlighted upon and so I included videos about Prithviraj Kapoor ji as he was not just Raj ji's father but he also was the one who started the Kapoor dynasty and he was a pioneer of Indian theatre & of the Hindi film industry. The second video is in Faislabad, Pakistan where Prithviraj Kapoor was born. Those videos are not mine. Kal Aaj Aur Kal - Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor - Bollywood Classic Movie
As the title suggests, Kal Aaj Aur Kal talks about the changing times and the need to adapt to it. Ram Kapoor, a wealthy industrialist, calls his father Diwan Bahadur Kapoor to stay with him. Ram's son Rajesh who is good at heart, initially takes a liking to his grandfather but as the grandfather begins to impose his orthodox beliefs on the household, Rajesh rebels. As a last straw, Diwan Bahadur Kapoor, arranges for Rajesh's marriage with the daughter of an old confidante of his forcing Rajesh who is already in love with someone else to protest. Things come to such a passe that Ram Kapoor decides to go missing for a few days to provide his father and son adequate time to sort out their differences. Will this decision of Ram Kapoor have any effect on Diwan Bahadur and his grandson Rajesh?

As the title suggests, Kal Aaj Aur Kal talks about the changing times and the need to adapt to it. Ram Kapoor, a wealthy industrialist, calls his father Diwan Bahadur Kapoor to stay with him. Ram's son Rajesh who is good at heart, initially takes a liking to his grandfather but as the grandfather begins to impose his orthodox beliefs on the household, Rajesh rebels. Kumar Ramsay, a member of the family best known for their horror films scripted this version of the classic Persian legend drawn from the 10th C. Shahnama which was a staple item in the Parsee Theatre. Unware of each others indentity, they confront each other on the battlefield where, in true feudal tradition, Rustom triumphs over his son. *.* The name of Rustam reigned supreme in the whole of Persia in the year 720 B.C. He was known for his gigantic elephantine physique and hard won world fame for his super human strength. . Persia was in alliance with Samangan a small friendly neighbouring kingdom. Princess Tehminia of Samangan had been lured towards Rustam by the stories of his strength. She desired him, destiny favoured the fair princess and Rustam consented to marry her. . After marriage Rustam lived in Samangan in the secluded company of Tehminias love. The enemies of Persia took advantage of his absence and with their treachery threw the Emperor Ky Kaoos in the dungeons of Mazanderan where brutal treatment was given to him by deadly warriors Dev-e-Safeed, Arzung and man mountain Kalahour. . Few more month and Rustams dreams would have been realised, this heart desire fulfilled, for he would have seen the birth of his son. But the news of his kings captivity dismayed his happy world. He left his pregnant wife weeping, entrusted her a seal of his clan and beseeched her to tie the same to his new borns limb so the gods would protect the child from the evil and men shrink at the sight of a sign belonging to lord of strength. . For years Rustam fought the enemy, smashed them against granite colums crushed them in his iron embrace, vanquished their mighty army single handed. But the enemies of Persia grew like the hissing serpents of Zohak, venomous and black, no sooner did Rustam cut them off from the shoulders of Persia they grew again. Amongst them was King Afrasiyab of Turan who swore to destroy Rustam. Meanwhile a child was born to Tehminia. She named him Sohrab and as instructed by his sire, she tied the seal to his arm. . One day with a murderous sword of vengeance Afrasiyab ventured to kill Sohrab but Tehminia hid the child and thus Sohrab was saved. however, this was enough warning. Sohrab was raised without the knowledge of his father and was known to be son of Rustam only to few faithful nobles of Samangan. Sohrab was now a young warrior, the son of a lion that he was, he grew to be like one. The treachery of Afrasiyab, who had sworn to kill rustam, brought Sohrab into his cruel trap and the young was matched against his own father in a deadly duel. . War and killing had made Rustam immune to finer feelings and emotions and if ever he felt a pinch in his heart it was a yearning to see his son. But now when the son was within his arms reach, he knew him not. Sohrab felt admiration for the old warrior but he was there only to kill. . Two strongest warriors that ever lived were matched against each other to kill or be killed. The earth trembled in fear, the skies were torn with lighting and the air was filled with the dreadful deeds of the warriors. For three days they fought. Rustam uprooted trees and used them as javelins, flung the ancient stones to kill his son. . On the third day, destiny triumphed, the deadly hour came. Rustam with a war cry pierced the young heart. The heavens rang out with a death knell of the chilling cry and then slowly in silence did Sohrab sunk down to earth. . Rustam saw his seal on Sohrabs arm. Dark clouds passed before his eyes, twice choked with tears, he uttered in a most ghostly voice. . "Slain by my hands, my son! you fall, My beautiful, my brave, the pride of all." . HE seized in both his hands his hair and tore his face and beard and cursed and wept, but nothing he could do to bring back the life of the son he had slained. That was the ordination. . *"The moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on; not all thy piety not wit, shall lure it back to cancel half a line, not all thy tears wash out a word of it".

Kumar Ramsay, a member of the family best known for their horror films scripted this version of the classic Persian legend drawn from the 10th C. Shahnama which was a staple item in the Parsee Theatre. Rustom (Kapoor in a role reminiscent of his performance in Mughal-e-Azam, 1960) is the king of Persia whose wife Tehmina(Suraiya) bears hisma son while he is away fighting wars. The son, Sohrab (Premnath), grows into a powerful warrior and ends up challenging his father. Unware of each others indentity, they confront each other on the battlefield where, in true feudal tradition, Rustom triumphs over his son. *.* The name of Rustam reigned supreme in the whole of Persia in the year 720 B.C. He was known for his gigantic elephantine physique and hard won world fame for his super human strength. . Persia was in alliance with Samangan a small friendly neighbouring kingdom. Princess Tehminia of Samangan had been lured towards Rustam by the stories of his strength. She desired him, destiny favoured the fair princess and Rustam consented to marry her. . After marriage Rustam lived in Samangan in the secluded company of Tehminias love. The enemies of Persia took advantage of his absence and with their treachery threw the Emperor Ky Kaoos in the dungeons of Mazanderan where brutal treatment was given to him by deadly warriors Dev-e-Safeed, Arzung and man mountain Kalahour. . Few more month and Rustams dreams would have been realised, this heart desire fulfilled, for he would have seen the birth of his son. But the news of his kings captivity dismayed his happy world. He left his pregnant wife weeping, entrusted her a seal of his clan and beseeched her to tie the same to his new borns limb so the gods would protect the child from the evil and men shrink at the sight of a sign belonging to lord of strength. . For years Rustam fought the enemy, smashed them against granite colums crushed them in his iron embrace, vanquished their mighty army single handed. But the enemies of Persia grew like the hissing serpents of Zohak, venomous and black, no sooner did Rustam cut them off from the shoulders of Persia they grew again. Amongst them was King Afrasiyab of Turan who swore to destroy Rustam. Meanwhile a child was born to Tehminia. She named him Sohrab and as instructed by his sire, she tied the seal to his arm. . One day with a murderous sword of vengeance Afrasiyab ventured to kill Sohrab but Tehminia hid the child and thus Sohrab was saved. however, this was enough warning. Sohrab was raised without the knowledge of his father and was known to be son of Rustam only to few faithful nobles of Samangan. Sohrab was now a young warrior, the son of a lion that he was, he grew to be like one. The treachery of Afrasiyab, who had sworn to kill rustam, brought Sohrab into his cruel trap and the young was matched against his own father in a deadly duel. . War and killing had made Rustam immune to finer feelings and emotions and if ever he felt a pinch in his heart it was a yearning to see his son. But now when the son was within his arms reach, he knew him not. Sohrab felt admiration for the old warrior but he was there only to kill. . Two strongest warriors that ever lived were matched against each other to kill or be killed. The earth trembled in fear, the skies were torn with lighting and the air was filled with the dreadful deeds of the warriors. For three days they fought. Rustam uprooted trees and used them as javelins, flung the ancient stones to kill his son. . On the third day, destiny triumphed, the deadly hour came. Rustam with a war cry pierced the young heart. The heavens rang out with a death knell of the chilling cry and then slowly in silence did Sohrab sunk down to earth. . Rustam saw his seal on Sohrabs arm. Dark clouds passed before his eyes, twice choked with tears, he uttered in a most ghostly voice. . "Slain by my hands, my son! you fall, My beautiful, my brave, the pride of all." . HE seized in both his hands his hair and tore his face and beard and cursed and wept, but nothing he could do to bring back the life of the son he had slained. That was the ordination. . *"The moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on; not all thy piety not wit, shall lure it back to cancel half a line, not all thy tears wash out a word of it".

The movie opens with a court scene where the convict Raj(Raj Kapoor) is being charged for alleged attempt of murder of Judge Raghunath(Prithviraj Kapoor). Raj's case is represented by Rita(Nargis) who dramatically enters the court to take up his case. The story follows her account of Raj's life. Judge Raghunath had earlier thrown out his pregnant wife Leela(Leela Chitnis) on suspicion of the child being that of the dacoit Jagga . Jagga wants the judge to doubt his wife in order to settle some old scores. The distressed wife gives birth to Raj amidst object poverty, but dreams of seeing her son a successful judge some day. Raj's childhood sweetheart is Rita but soon they separate as she leaves town. Raj has to leave his studies midway and is compelled to take up illegal activities under the patronge of Jaggu. He turns out to be a petty thief, but wants to reform. Circumstances however makes things difficult for him. Finally, Judge Raghunath comes to know who Raj is; and though Raj is convicted for 3 years; he promises Rita to come out and lead a honest life. The movie a powerful social comment on the despair of 50's youth, is regarded as an epic landmark in the history of Hindi Cinema, and a testimony of the famous Raj Kapoor -Nargis chemistry on screen; mesmerising stuff!

Prithviraj Kapoor - Biography
Prithviraj Kapoor (3 November 1906 – 29 May 1972) was a pioneer of Indian theatre and of the Hindi film industry, who started his career as an actor, in the silent era of Hindi cinema, associated with IPTA as one of its founding members and who founded the Prithvi Theatres, a travelling theatre company based in Mumbai, in 1944. He was also the patriarch of the Kapoor family of Hindi films, four generations of which family, beginning with him, have played active roles in the Hindi film industry. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1969 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1971 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. the editing is really amateur in this i know, i was still getting figuring out how to edit vids to a good standard. i made this for Raj Kapoor ji's death anniversary (2nd June). I've already made a video for Raj ji so for his death anniversary I wanted to make a more personal video in which his parents and childhood memories were highlighted upon and so I included videos about Prithviraj Kapoor ji as he was not just Raj ji's father but he also was the one who started the Kapoor dynasty and he was a pioneer of Indian theatre & of the Hindi film industry. The year is 1984, Shashi Kapoor comes to Vancouver with actress Nutan for a concert in Vancouver. In this interview with host Shushma he talks very freely about his impression of Vancouver and his desire to come back to Vancouver to make a film. This interview was recorded just before he was flying to England to finish his film "Utsav" in English and Hindi.He also talks about his kids and their future.

the editing is really amateur in this i know, i was still getting figuring out how to edit vids to a good standard. i made this for Raj Kapoor ji's death anniversary (2nd June).
I've already made a video for Raj ji so for his death anniversary I wanted to make a more personal video in which his parents and childhood memories were highlighted upon and so I included videos about Prithviraj Kapoor ji as he was not just Raj ji's father but he also was the one who started the Kapoor dynasty and he was a pioneer of Indian theatre & of the Hindi film industry.
The second video is in Faislabad, Pakistan where Prithviraj Kapoor was born.
Those videos are not mine.
