Monthly Review magazine is seeking a part-time circulation manager

Primary duties include: Updating subscriber records in the database for both paper and electronic readers of the magazine. Familiarity with WordPress, Filemaker, and Excel, would be useful but not essential. Other responsibilities include creating monthly label files for mailing the magazine, for renewal-reminder mailings, and updating monthly reports.

Candidates must be detail-oriented, focused, and capable of handling multiple tasks at once. Competent writing and good communication skills, including patience and clarity in handling a variety of phone and email queries, from both domestic and foreign readers, are essential. Candidates must also be able to work independently and to manage time and workflow. Other tasks include opening mail and receiving visitors to the office.

As Monthly Review continues to develop its web-based access, the job will require some level of trouble-shooting and problem-solving, in concert with our webmaster, to improve and simplify customer web interaction.

Since the magazine’s founding in 1949, Monthly Review Foundation (which includes Monthly Review magazine and MR Press) has existed as a small publisher with a large influence and reputation in left intellectual politics.

The position requires three days per week, pays $25k/year, and includes medical and dental benefits, and employer contribution to a pension plan.
