Mazda has added more standard safety technology across the majority of its popular CX-5 compact SUV range.

Its two lower grades, Maxx and Maxx Sport, now come standard with blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, forward auto city braking, and an auto dimming rear vision mirror.

In addition to the extra gear, Mazda has also cut the prices of the Maxx and Maxx Sport by $530.

The GT grade CX-5 gains - on top of the Maxx models - reversing auto city brake functions while also having its price reduced by $360.

These safety functions are added on top of Mazda's already standard kit which includes anti-lock brakes, stability control, emergency braking, emergency stop warning and traction control.

The Mazda CX-5 is still available with a number of engines which include a 2.0-litre petrol unit, a 2.5-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel unit.

The all-new Mazda CX-5 is due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show in November and should arrive locally early in 2017.
