Targeted – Unemployed, aged, disabilities, carers

Social Services Minister Christian Porter is not lying when he says that the “budget savings” in the government’s Omnibus bill are “targeted”. The majority of these so-called “savings” are cruel cuts targeted at the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in the community. The Labor “Opposition” should hang its head for rolling over with hardly a murmur to give its support to the Turnbull/Abbott cuts.  more ...

Editorial – Australia’s aid and comfort to IS

A week ago the Australian Air Force took part in the bombing and slaughter of Syrian troops at Deir al-Zor, a city in eastern Syria that has been under siege by ISIS for the last two years. This was done in concert with the US forces that are illegally ranging over Syria – in the air and on the ground, justifying their presence by the cover of a war against terrorism.  more ...

Turnbull’s shameful refugee charade

Prime Minister Turnbull appeared assured and relaxed during his recent visit to New York. Learn from our past – from the campaigns run by the peace movement, in particular, by the Campaign for International Cooperation and Disarmament (CICD) during the Vietnam War as part of the worldwide movement that forced this war to stop.  more ...

Culture in Revolution

June 16, 23, and 30, 1961, were intense days of open, frank discussion at José Martí National Library in Havana. Fidel and a significant group of Cuban writers and artists from various disciplines held a dialogue, during which concerns, doubts, and problems related to the creation and distribution of ideas, art and literature surfaced. Relations between the country’s nascent institutions and the intellectual community were addressed.  more ...

Culture & Life – Bernie Sanders and mass action

Bernie Sanders, the independent US social democrat Senator, has been a left-wing voice in the US Senate for years without making much impact outside his own Vermont constituency. To reach a wider audience, he decided to join the race for the White House.  more ...

Quote of the Week

What we need in South Africa is for egos to be suppressed in favour of peace.
We need to create a new breed of South Africans who love their country and love everybody, irrespective of their colour.
