If you are planning on starting your long weekend a little early and heading south, you may want to delay your travel.

If you're heading north, the news isn't much better.

The Pacific Motorway has slowed to a crawl from Ormeau to Nerang after an earlier accident.

A car and a motorbike collided just after 11am, leaving the motorbike rider in a serious condition with an arm fracture and abdominal injuries.

The southbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway were closed for more than an hour with traffic banking up to Pimpama and slow nearly back to Ormeau.

The motorway has since reopened but the traffic problems are still recovering. Roads that feed onto the motorway on the Gold Coast were also suffering as a result.

The male motorcycle rider was taken in a serious but stable condition to the Gold Coast University Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.

An earlier crash was causing major delays on the Gateway Motorway northbound through Nudgee, according to the RACQ.

They warned motorists to expect delays as slow traffic snaked back past the Airport Drive. Gympie Road was also slow from Bald Hills back to Chermside.
