Best & worst dressed celebrities of the week

In this week's round up, we bow down to Jennifer Connelly, the Duchess rocks red in Canada and Katie Price remains one of a kind. By Nyree McFarlane.

THE BEST: This Preen dress is now among my top five Duchess of Camb' looks of all time (straight to the pool room with this one). She's slam-dunking that midi-length, the draping around the bodice of the dress is incredibly flattering and the can the girl work an updo. She's even making the obligatory I'm-visiting-Canada-so-must-wear-a-maple-brooch look chic. It’s very fifties and yet also very millennial. Proper princess shiz. Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: One week, two great outfits from the Duchess. I'm glad she's in Canada, as red really suits her. It also looks like the royal fashion board of advisors let Kate out of her nude patent shoes for the day, and she looks delighted about her scarlet pumps (as she should). The Duchess is wearing strong-shouldered Alexander McQueen here, and while the double ruffle skirt goes against everything I believe in, I dig the embroidery, and think she's actually making this whole thing work. THE GOOD: Jennifer Connelly looks like she could deflect a bullet off her torso in this metallic swimsuit-on-'roids Louis Vuitton dress. She's pulling off visible zippers, wet-look hair and head-to-toe shine, and I think a lot of that comes down to those brows. Dang, those brows. THE GOOD: If by some kind of magical movie moment I suddenly woke up as as a 50-ish-year-old lesbian I think Christine Baranski would be firmly on my top 10 list. I love everything about her (she even made me enjoy Mamma Mia), and this magical outfit is just deepening my crush. The colour is to-die, the structured neckline really makes it, her chunky bracelet is wondrous and the volume in her hair? Superhuman. Love it. PS: Don't even get me started on The Good Wife... THE GOOD: If anyone's going to make this velvet and sheer mesh Brandon Maxwell gown look majestic it's Uma Thurman. She looks understated and yet excessively elegant all at the same time. Take note imitators, this is how to make a thigh-high split in a gown look chic rather than 'I've been in a terrible accident and so the paramedics had to cut my dress in half to status-check my organs'. THE BAD: I love moss green, I'm just not sure I'm into dresses that make it look like actual moss is attacking a woman’s body. If this Francesco Scognamiglio dress was lined in a tonal mint green I think it could be quite beautiful, but Amanda Wellsh currently looks like she's been cursed by Poison Ivy and is just standing there naked, slowly being overtaken by a deadly (but oddly beautiful) plant. THE BAD: I don't think I've ever seen so many tassels hanging off of one person. The oppressive black threads on the DSquared dress are one thing, but throw in the bag, shoes, eight-inch earrings and that torture device choker and it looks like Karolina Kurkova has been forced to catwalk through the set of Penny Dreadful in the middle of a cyclone. PS: You literally could not wear those earrings around a playful kitten. Your lobes would be in shreds within minutes. Photo: Getty
THE BAD: You know what's worse than leather jogging pants? Leather jogging pants the colour of the foundation line on Donald Trump's chin. THE BAD: Gorgeous Rowan Blanchard is only 14, and power to her for taking fashion risks. She's wearing this materially-dyslexic dress as well as anyone could, but the designer - Rodarte - needs to go sit in the naughty corner for a few minutes for making this gorgeous tween look like she's turned up to Halloween as the 'sombre festive' drawer in Martha Stewart's gift wrapping cabinet. THE BAD: I love whenever Katie 'Jordan' Price does a new book launch. Why? Well because she never fails to look like a catalogue version of Lady Gaga. It's Gaga's crackadoodle brand of couture, but just the cut-price diffusion edition. Here she is coming out of a bargain-bin version of Gaga's 2011 Grammy's egg. PS: Note how her book is called Reborn… so she's gone full literal with her outfit then. PPS: She appears to be a bit drenched up top. The egg must have been clammy inside. Never change Katie.
