New Jersey Transit (usually shortened to NJ Transit or NJT) is a New Jersey State-owned public transportation system serving the US state of New Jersey; along with portions of New York, Orange, and Rockland counties in New York State; and Philadelphia County in Pennsylvania. It operates bus, light rail, and commuter rail services throughout the state, notably connecting to major commercial and employment centers both within the state and in the adjacent major cities of New York and Philadelphia.
Covering a service area of 5,325 square miles (13,790 km2), NJT is the largest statewide public transit system and the third largest provider of bus, rail, and light rail transit by ridership in the United States, linking major points in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
NJT also acts as a purchasing agency for many private operators in New Jersey, with numerous private operators receiving equipment from NJT (primarily buses) for route service within the state not controlled by NJT.
Authorities say one person was hurt when an NJ TRANSIT train from Middletown to Hoboken struck an NJ TRANSIT bus operated by Community Coach Bus in Garfield.
As part of NJ TRANSIT’s Safety Education Program, our team educates all public, private and charter schools (Grade Pre-K through 12) and community groups through complimentary “Safety Rules!” presentations. One component of this presentation is an updated video shown to middle and high school students focusing on the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks and the need for caution & safe behavior around tracks and trains. Check out the trailer for the “Chicken on the Tracks” video.

Over the next month, we will be traveling from New York to Washington DC. This is Amtrak's busiest railway corridor, but it is also served by different state-run commuter rail systems. We will be riding commuter rail from New York to Philadelphia and from Baltimore to DC. In this first instalment, we will be hopping aboard a New Jersey Transit train on the Northeast Corridor Line (named after, well, the Northeast Corridor) and riding it in its entirety from New York Penn Station down to Trenton, NJ. Our train is a Bombardier Multi-Level, and it skips all stops between Newark Airport and New Brunswick. Is this train worth the price of a ticket? Find out! Trains Are Awesome! Engineer Ben @ERIELACKU34CH gives several hornshows from Alstom PL42AC 4024 and another sad sounding horn on Alstom Comet V cab car 6068. I unfortunately had some technical difficulties with a few disappointing audio glitches on the clip of the cab car pulling in. They happened while filming so I couldn't fix it during editing unfortunately. I hope this doesn't happen again. #railfan #railfanning #njt #njtransit #hornshow #alstom #pl42ac #4024
