Sharing a Tweet

Sharing a Tweet privately is easy. You have the option to share via Direct Message with your followers, or through an SMS or email to your contacts from your phone’s address book.

To share a Tweet via Direct Message:

From the Twitter for iOS or Android app:

  1. Tap on the Message iconfrom a Tweet on your Home timeline or Tweet detail, to share.
    (Note: A protected Tweet cannot be shared through a Direct Message.)
  2. Select an account from the suggested list, or tap the Search for people and groups text box to type in the account(s) you wish to send a Message to. Twitter may suggest recipients, including from your device contacts if you allowed Twitter to access them. When you choose to share a Tweet with one of your contacts, your default email or SMS message app will open.
  3. You have the option to Add a note to your Message.
  4. Tap Send.
    (Pro tip: You can also long-press the Tweet from within your timeline to access the menu to Send via Direct Message.)


From the web:

  1. Click the more iconlocated within the Tweet.
  2. From the menu that pops up, select Share via Direct Message.
  3. Enter a name of the user you wish to send a message to.
  4. Click the Next button.
  5. You have the option to Add a comment to your Message.
  6. Click Send.

To share a Tweet via SMS or email:

 From the Twitter for iOS app:

  1. Tap the  icon located at the top of the Tweet you’d like to share.
  2. From the menu that pops up, select Share Tweet via…
    • To send via SMS, select your SMS application and add the contacts you wish to send the Tweet to.
    • To send via email, select your email client and enter the email address(es) of the people you wish to email the Tweet to.
  3. You can choose to add a comment to the SMS or email.
  4. Tap Send.

 
From the Twitter for Android app:

  1. Tap the Tweet to open the Tweet detail.
  2. Tap the share iconlocated within the Tweet.
  3. From the menu that pops up, select your SMS or email application.
    • If sending via SMS, add the contacts you wish to send the Tweet to.
    • If sending via email, enter the email address(es) of the people you wish to email the Tweet to.
  4. You can choose to add a comment to the SMS or email.
  5. Tap Send.
    (Pro tip: You can also long-press the Tweet from within your timeline to access the share menu.)


From the web:

  1. Click the more iconlocated within the Tweet.
  2. From the menu that pops up, select Copy link to Tweet.
  3. A prompt will appear, with the URL of the Tweet highlighted.
  4. Copy the URL. Once you have opened your email client, you can paste the URL into the email you compose.
