At 10.30pm, Vodafone finally confirmed the outage via social media.
"We are aware of an issue which is causing intermittent disruption to voice, data, and text services for some customers," Vodafone said on Twitter and Facebook.
"We're working to resolve this ASAP as our top priority. We don't have an ETA at this time but will keep you updated.
"We're very sorry about the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience."
Many customers were were not satisfied with the telco's response.
Riyadh Jamal from Sydney told Fairfax Media he and his four other family members were all affected by the outage for five hours.
"My brother works in sales and is advised the day before of his hours for the next day. He couldn't look up his work roster," he said.
"My in-laws are overseas for a religious purpose and we also couldn't check if they were okay.
"We're not sure if we have missed any calls or messages."
Mr Jamal said he had only upgraded all five contracts last week and now feared he was stuck with Vodafone if he decided he wanted to switch networks.
The company confirmed services were back online around 2.30am.

Telstra has granted its customers free data days to apologise for the outages. Early on Monday morning, some Vodafone customers were suggesting it do the same.
