Winner 2014 | Brown Bag Films / Disney Junior
When a toy is “injured,” young Doc McStuffins and an assortment of toy helpers open her clinic to diagnose and heal the ailing plaything. A charming show for preschoolers, created by Chris Nee, Doc McStuffins is as fun as it is rich with social messaging. While teaching children not to be scared of a trip to the doctor and encouraging them not to hide inner pains, but instead to talk things through with others, the series refreshingly centers its action on a young African-American girl who is a skilled doctor and engineer. What is more, her expertise at fixing toys is acknowledged and respected by those around her: everyone knows that Doc, like her mother, a “real” physician, is the best at what she does. Season Two upped its ante, offering some toys whose injuries cannot be cured, thereby encouraging children to appreciate and accept differently abled friends. It also offered a princess who preferred to save the prince, and more of the delightfully impish evil king. Doc‘s imprint is widely evident in the inspiration it gave to the Artemis Society, a group of women physicians of color, and in thousands of young girls sporting stethoscopes and offering diagnoses rather than waiting simply to be saved or married. For giving children’s television a needed check-up, and for prescribing the confident, compassionate, problem-solving young Doc, Doc McStuffins is honored with a Peabody Award.

Doc McStuffins
Doc McStuffins is an American-Irish animated children's television series produced by Brown Bag Films. It was created and executive produced by Chris Nee and premiered on March 23, 2012 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. The series is about a girl who can "fix" toys, with help from her toy friends. It features songs written and composed by Kay Hanley and Michelle Lewis.
The series received positive reviews due to the show's concept and the main character, as well as its portrayal of African-Americans (Nee stated in 2013 that Doc is African-American, proposed by Disney during her initial pitch, Nee initially only knowing she wanted a girl doctor) in a Disney series. Chris Nee describes the series as "Cheers for Preschoolers."
On April 14, 2015, the series was renewed for a fourth season by Disney Junior.
Premise
The series chronicles freckled, six-year-old (later seven) Dottie "Doc" McStuffins who decides she wants to become a doctor like her mother. She practices her dream by fixing toys and dolls.

Chris Brown
Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, dancer, rapper and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss", in addition to "With You" and "Forever". The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA.
In 2009, Brown received much media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single "I Can Transform Ya". Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned the successful singles "Yeah 3x", "Look at Me Now", and "Beautiful People". F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown's albums have not been well received commercially or by music critics, with the exception of X, which received a normalized rating of 63. Brown's seventh studio album Royalty was released on December 18, 2015.

Disney Junior
Disney Junior is an American digital cable and satellite television network that is owned by the Disney Channels Worldwide unit of the Disney–ABC Television Group, itself a unit of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. Aimed mainly at children under 8 years of age, its programming consists of original first-run television series, theatrically-released and made-for-DVD movies and select other third-party programming.
Disney Junior also lends its name to a morning and early afternoon program block seen on sister network Disney Channel, branded as "Disney Junior on Disney Channel", airing weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (6:00 to 10:30 a.m. during the summer months and designated school break periods) and weekends from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. Eastern and Pacific Time.
As of February 2015, Disney Junior is available to approximately 74,972,000 households (64.4% of those with television) in the United States.
History
Origins
The Walt Disney Company first attempted to launch a 24-hour cable channel for preschoolers in the United States, when the company announced plans to launch the Playhouse Disney Channel, a television offshoot of Disney Channel's daytime programming block Playhouse Disney, which debuted on the channel on May 8, 1997 (airing during the morning hours seven days a week, with the Monday through Friday blocks lasting until the early afternoon). Plans for the United States network were ultimately shelved, however dedicated Playhouse Disney Channels were launched in other countries internationally.
