Flowing Wells, Arizona

Flowing Wells is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 15,050 at the 2000 census.

The Flowing Wells community was given an All-American City Award by the National Civic League in 2007.

Geography

Flowing Wells is located at 32°17′29″N 111°0′32″W / 32.29139°N 111.00889°W / 32.29139; -111.00889 (32.291305, -111.008859).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 15,050 people, 6,250 households, and 3,849 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 4,413.2 people per square mile (1,704.1/km²). There were 7,210 housing units at an average density of 2,114.2/sq mi (816.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 84.21% White, 0.89% Black or African American, 1.46% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 9.12% from other races, and 3.61% from two or more races. 21.86% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Arizona

Arizona (ⁱ/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. The term "high school" originated in Scotland, with the world's oldest high school being Edinburgh's Royal High School from 1505. The Royal High School was used as a model for the first public high school in the United States, Boston Latin School founded in Boston, Massachusetts.

The precise stage of schooling provided by a high school differs from country to country, and may vary within the same jurisdiction. In Australia, high school is a secondary school, from Year 7 or Year 8 through to Year 12, varying from state to state. High school immediately follows primary (elementary) school; therefore, a Year-7 Australian high-school student is sometimes as young as 12. In Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, the term "high school" generally refers to Years 7–10, whereas the term "College" is used for Years 11–12. In Victoria the term "secondary college" has largely replaced the term "high school" following the reforms of the Labor Government in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
