Just Drive

"Just Drive" is a song recorded by British singer/songwriter Alistair Griffin. It is his first official single since "You and Me (Tonight)" in 2004. It was released as a single in November 2010.

The song was used by the BBC at the end of their coverage of the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in a montage showing highlights of the Formula One season, and a re-recorded version (replacing "died a thousand times" with "lived a thousand lives" in the lyrics) is also used as the theme tune for Sky Sports F1's coverage from the 2012 season. It was also featured on the end credits in the F1 2012 video game.

Alistair Richard Griffin (born 1 November 1977) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Already an established songwriter, he first became famous as a solo artist through his appearances on the BBC television show Fame Academy 2 in 2003, where he was mentored by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. He subsequently had two top twenty hit singles and a top twenty album in the UK.

Early career

Alistair Griffin was born in Middlesbrough, England. He started singing and writing songs whilst still a student at York St. John College (now York St. John University), playing guitar and busking on the streets of York with a small band. His wide musical influences range from classic rock and Britpop, to English and American folk music. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in English literature and following a brief stint working as a milkman around his home town, he moved to London to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter.

Sky Sports

Sky Sports is a group of sports television channels operated by the satellite pay-TV company Sky plc. Sky Sports is the dominant subscription television sports brand in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has played a major role in the increased commercialisation of British sport since 1991, sometimes playing a large role in inducing organisational changes in the sports it broadcasts, most notably when it encouraged the Premier League to break away from The Football League in 1992.

Eurosport (1989–1991)

At launch on 5 February 1989, Sky Television operated Eurosport as a 50/50 joint venture with the European Broadcasting Union. The channel was marketed as one of Sky's four channels upon its launch, although additional sports programmes such as long-running international cricket coverage was occasionally broadcast on Sky Channel.

Sky Sports F1

Sky Sports F1 is a television channel created especially for Sky's UK coverage of Formula One, with Sky having a package of UK rights from the 2012 season to the 2018 season.

Background

BBC initially had exclusive UK rights from 2009 until the end of the 2013 season, having regained the rights from ITV. However, because of the licence fee freeze and resultant review of cost constraints, it was believed that BBC were to leave F1 after the 2011 season.

A new broadcast rights deal was announced on 29 July 2011, stating that Sky Sports would cover all races live, (half of which would be exclusively live). Both Sky and BBC would cover the remaining races live including the British Grand Prix. It also allowed BBC to show highlights of all races, (including the other races that they did not have live rights to cover).

Subsequently on 21 December, 2015. It was announced that BBC would be ending their broadcast rights two seasons early after the 2015 season with the free to air rights to 10 live races and highlights of all 22 races going to Channel 4. BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra will continue to broadcast live commentary of the whole season, including practice, qualifying and the races until the end of the 2021 season.
