UPDATE

Richmond's President has made an impassioned defence of the club's board.

The Tigers' last premiership captain is behind a planned spill of the board, but President Peggy O'Neal and CEO Brendon Gale have stood firm.

Ms O'Neal said the club is "bitterly disappointed" with the team's performance this season, and understands where the fans' anger comes from.

"The members and fans have every right to be angry. We hear them," she said.

But Ms O'Neal reiterated "significant" the off-field success that the board has been responsible for, saying she wants this episode resolved quickly.

"Instability causes chaos and I refuse to let that happen to our club."

EARLIER

Bruce Monteath, who captained the Tigers to the 1980 flag, is part of the "Focus on Footy" ticket, as is former teammate Bryan Wood.

Philip Allison, Margaret Kearney, Dr David Marsh and Ingrid Williams are also supporting Dr Martin Hiscock - who is leading the ticket.

"The Richmond Football Club sits at a 35-year crossroad," Hiscock said.

"It either continues down the same path as the most unsuccessful club in the competition, or it takes a different road to competing in and winning premierships.

"We are 35 years into a five-year plan. It's got to stop here immediately."

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR...

  • They want to pursue Neil Balme as "CEO of Football".
  • They want Peggy O'Neal to "gracefully stand down" as club president.
  • Brendon Gale and Damien Hardwick would remain as CEO and coach.
